Navigating Chicago with No Internet Connection

Disclaimer: This is a Fashionista Event and a promotional item was provided to me. Hosts for this event are Still Blonde after all these Years and ModlyChic. As a blogger and an online business entrepreneur, having access to quality high-speed internet, at home and on the go, is extremely important! If you don't believe me ask any other website owner or online entrepreneur and they will tell you the exact same.

Heck, even brick-and-mortar stores are finding that in this technological age, it's not just all about in-person dealings anymore.

Strictly from a business standpoint the internet opens up a world of possibilities. With my online jewelry businesses I've sold handmade and vintage pieces across the world; Hong Kong, Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Russia just to name a few countries.

For blogging and my Etsy businesses,  quality internet, preferably high speed at that, is a necessity especially when I'm out and about or traveling.

Story time...

As an #entrepreneur high speed internet is a necessity, especially on the go! Find out how I navitaged #Chicago with no internet connection & learn about Verizon's lastest deal #verizonwirelessoffer

I was just in Chicago for a blogging conference this past weekend and chose not to bring my laptop. I had a duffle bag full of clothing, a bag for my essentials to carry around with me, and another bag I packed for a fellow blogger; I was not about to lug my 17" laptop with me and trudge around downtown Chicago.

Therefore I relied on my phone the whole 3 days I was there.

As a blogger who went to a blogging conference sans laptop, I definitely felt lost. I couldn't do my normal blogger things like chore threads and writing posts, but you think I could do simple things like update social media channels, access my email, access the internet to look up places to eat and explore...

I could. Less than half of the time.

The updating social media channels wasn't too terrible but when it came to anything that required internet access, it was either slower than molasses in January (quaint phrase I picked up from my boyfriend) or it wouldn't go at all.

Case in point: A fellow blogger and I wanted to go to dinner before a party were suppose to be at at 8pm. We weren't quite sure what we wanted so we both attempted to access or friend Google for some suggestions. I kept getting a 'No internet connection' message and a blank white screen while she was throwing out various restaurants around the area.

I finally just gave up and let her navigate.

Can you imagine if I was alone in a large city as the sun was setting, lost, and all I could get from my smartphone was a loading page or worse, a total blank white screen like below?

Oh man! That is the worst! I've come to rely SO much on the internet for everything, especially when it comes to blogging. It's SO important to have a service you can depend on!

Shauna Torres said...

You know what? It drives me nuts, I have that issue all the time with no service... ugh. If I had my choice I think I would go with the new S6... :) as I am a Samsung girl

Jennifer S. said...

Seriously lost without my phone, as you know! LOL Service is extra important during conferences!

Cindy Ingalls said...

Not having internet access in a city you don't know is such a challenge. I know we got along fine without them before, but it now it seems so much harder.

Elizabeth Parker said...

So I would actually try the iPhone 6S - I have the Galaxy s6 now and although I love it, as a blogger the battery life isn't great. So I may go over to "the dark side" soon :P.

Jeannette said...

We have Verizon and came from another company because we couldn't call form our own house. I have never looked back!

S Carter said...

I would choose the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. My BFF has that phone and the camera is so much better than mine. I currently have an HTC. Thanks for the giveaway.

Heather Pfingsten said...

I really want a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Edge, I can't decide between the two. I need a phone that takes amazing pictures for travel and family time, I need a phone that has an amazing battery life, and something with added protection, like the S7 waterproofing would be amazing. I soooo want one of these phones. EPPP!!!

Liz Mays said...

Gosh, that is so inconvenient when you're traveling. Having reliable service is essential when you're on the road!

CraftyMomof3 said...

Internet is essential to our lives!! If it doesn't work - we basically can't do our jobs. I like my Verizon service because I usually always have a signal ;)

Elizabeth O. said...

I can definitely relate! It's so hard to go on events without internet connection, especially if it's for blogging. The struggle is definitely there! I'm glad Verizon has a deal like this, sounds like a total dream!

Akhil Sharma said...

Two things scares and nettles me always; Internet data and phone's battery, as these are the most essential things for me. Thanks to Verizon for this great deal.

I would choose the Samsung Galaxy S6 in Platinum because I still have a BLACKBERRY! I need an update so bad and i hear great things about this phone.

Nicole Escat said...

I can't imagine my life without an internet connection, even a day. However, if I'm going to have an adventure with my family, I can go without internet for at most 3 days!

Danne Reed said...

I don't like having slow internet connection. What's the worst than it is a day without internet! It's really a horrible thing!

Ryan Escat said...

The struggles are real, we cannot live without internet connection especially in our type of industry!

Colette S said...

I'm an lg fan, but wouldn't mind trying the
Samsung Galaxy S®6 32GB in Gold Platinum, just for feels

I usually end up lugging my laptop with me when I travel. Mine isn't clunky though. I have a chromebook so it's super light weight.
I would be annoyed with no Internet connection especially if I was alone in a city that I wasn't familiar with.

Life With Kathy said...

I don't think I would have been able to do that without a laptop. I always have them with me on trips like that. Great giveaway too. That is such a great prize!

Amanda Love said...

I'm with Sprint and it depends on where I'm at I can barely get service. It really sucks but I'm stuck in a contract and while I hate them, I do like their prices. :) Verizon is a little too expensive for me.

Krafty said...

I can't live without my phone and I do use Verizon. I can't decide which phone deal but I like both iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models. I would love to win a phone for my daughter away at college.

LeahSay's Views - Bonnie said...

The newest Samsung Galaxy would be my choice. I have an older model and LOVE it. I like being able to add a micro disc card for my business photos.

I believe Verizon's the leading name not just for show but it just simply shows. I've had unfortunate data experiences with their competitors in the mobile industry and internet on-the-go should almost be on par with home internet as much as possible. That said, I like that S7, Edge or not. It's nice of you to give a chance for readers to win!

NPC said...

OMG, I don't know what I would do! I rely on the internet for almost everything!

Kyli said...

I work from home so having reliable internet is vital!

I don't like when my driving directions mess up! Thanks for sharing this post!

I would pick the iPhone 6s, I never owned a smartphone till a few weeks ago. I got a Android for really cheap, thing is it's horrible. It lags and closes while I am using it. People tell em they can't hear me well and the camera is not that great. I would go with Iphone because I have a mac and a iPod and love them both, they are so smooth and easy to use.

Nicolette Collazo said...

I'd choose the Samsung Note since I've always liked using samsung products

njsunbunny said...

I would chose an iPhone 6 because iPhones are my favorite phones!

Mary Whitescarver said...

Jessica Small said...

I would choose the Edge7. I have the galaxy5 right now and love it but I think this new technology is amazing

Marie Moody said...

I would probably pick Samsung Galaxy S® 5 in Charcoal Black only because I see that that's the cheapest one there. Things are so tight lately I have to go that way. I'm still saving for my shots and that has to come first. C0-pay is now $250 OUCH! :( I'm like five months overdue and it's getting unbearable and I know you know what that's like baby girl.

Marie Moody said...

I believe I said which one I would pick in my last comment... it's not the one I would really want, but it is the one I can afford somewhat.

Rhonda Tenderholt said...

I'd like either a Samsung S7 or S7 Edge for myself. I'm not sure which. I'd like to get my son one too because when he's off on his own sometimes, if something happens, he can call and I can pick him up or whatever.

Edna Williams said...

Oh, I seriously would choose the Samsung Galaxy 6 because I love Samsung products!

Cassandra said...

I would choose the Samsung Galaxy S6. I've had previous versions of this phone and have been happy with it. It's time for an upgrade & I'd like this lightweight phone with better processor and battery life. I also like that it's made with Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4, so I won't have to worry as much about it dropping & breaking as easily as other phones.

Elizabeth Hostetler said...

I would pick the Samsung Galaxy S5. Just want something simple to use and this one seems like the best bet.

Sonya Allstun said...

We have Verizon and came from another company because we couldn't call from our own house. And even had a cell booster we paid #$400 for so I have to say I have never looked back!

I use Verizon and it is so much better then sprint. I got a new Motorola phone and it is great

Jennifer Herman said...

I like the iphone 6plus. I like this one because of the Live Photos feature. I think that that would be a cool device to use!

Jennifer Herman said...

I like the buy one get one free deal. I think that this is the best deal.

John Herman said...

I got to say the buy one get one deal. That one sounds good. It sounds like a deal.

John Herman said...

I like the iPhone 6 Plus. I would prefer this one because of the 5.5–inch Retina HD display. I would like to have this one.

Trisha McKee said...

I would choose the Galaxy Note 5. I love Galaxy phones. I have had so much luck with them! i am rough on phones and these withstand all that and more!

Unknown said...

I am a total Apple Fanboy. So it would be the iPhone 6 for me. Verizon works for me because the coverage is great in SF using that carrier.

Alex Porges said...

Verizon is the best service, at least where we live. We have tried Sprint and T-mobile w/ no luck and hated each. After joining Verizon, we have not considered any other, well, except perhaps to give the Google service a passing glance.
