My 2013 #VarsityVoxBox Review

Disclaimer: I was provided a Varsity VoxBox from Influenster.com in order to facilitate this honest review on The Eclectic Element. All opinions are 100% mine and mine alone unless otherwise stated. Please do your own research before committing to purchase a product or service as your opinions may vary.

Influenster.com is at it again with their latest VoxBox creation, the Varsity VoxBox! Back in February I was sent the Sweetheart VoxBox and I had a lot of fun being able to try out and review all the neat things that came in it so recently given the opportunity, I went ahead and signed up to see what goodies I'd get in the Varsity VoxBox!

"Work Hard. Play Hard. No one does it like you. Your course load is full and your pockets are light, but you're still livin' the dream. This Varsity VoxBox is for the sleepless nights spent studying, partying, and making memories to last a lifetime."

Ready to take a look into what I received? All 5 products and my thoughts on them are below!

Airheads Xtremes Bites--$1.69 per bag

While this is a natural and organic website and this product is obviously NOT natural and organic, I must say for a now-and-again treat, this is definitely something I'd add to my cheat list. While I remember some Airheads candies being strongly sour, these new Airheads Xtremes Bites are definitely what they advertise: "a perfect balance of sweet and sour." Found in a 60oz bag, these Rainbowberry Xtremes come in individual 'belts' that are perfect for portioning and/or sharing if you're so inclined. The boyfriend says he quite enjoyed this as well!

Tide Pods

Tide pods are the only unique 3 in 1 detergent that contains a detergent, stain fighter, AND brightener all in one little neat package, or 'pod'. At first, I was a little skeptical about this particular product; do you really just plop the thing in your washer and you're good to go? Yes my friends, it is that easy! After I washed and dried my laundry and as I was putting it away I noticed two things: the fresh scent my laundry had and how extremely soft my laundry was. This is definitely a product I will get again!

NYC New York Color Big Bold Plumping & Shine Lip Gloss--$3.99

I'm not a big lip gloss person so I wasn't quite sure how I was going to fair with this product that came in my Varsity VoxBox but I must say, even though it's not natural which is a disappointment, I really did like it! Not only was it a beautiful color that suited me, it really did seem to plump up my lips which really did surprise me. The only thing that I wasn't the biggest fan of was, aside from being non-natural, it didn't seem to last as long as it was advertised to. 10 to 15 minutes tops and you'd have to re-apply. Regardless, I will continue to use this until it's done!

Connect:

Kiss Nail Dress--$6.99

Out of the whole Varsity VoxBox of goodies that came, the Kiss Nail Dress was the one thing that was less then satisfying. I'm not really prone on doing my nails regardless of lacquer, nailpolish, or stick-ons but when I'm feeling a little girly, I opt for the easiest of all three. While the design is really very awesome and these are said to be quick and easy to apply in 'no time at all', I found them to be confusing, hard to use, and not at all user friendly. That's unfortunately why you only see one (badly applied) toe nail done because I just got too frustrated to try and use the rest.

Connect:

Clearasil Daily Clear Refreshing Superfruit Wash--$6.49

I'm always on the lookout for good facial products so I was pretty excited to be able to try out Clearasil's Refreshing Superfruit Wash! Again, not as natural as I'd prefer, but with that being said it wasn't too bad. Very easy to apply, refreshing scent unlike some beauty products that smell too chemically for my taste, and left my skin feeling clean for quite awhile! The only bad thing is I did feel like it dried out my face a little so using it the recommended once a day wasn't optimal for me. Every other day or a couple times a week was good enough for me!

Delivery Man Movie Review #DeliveryManMovie

Disclaimer: I was provided an advanced screening of this movie in order to facilitate this Delivery Man Movie Review #DeliveryManMovie post. All opinions expressed below are 100% mine and mine alone unless otherwise stated. Please do your own research before committing to purchase a product or service as your opinions may vary.

Movie Synopsis:

David Wozniac(Vince Vaughn) is a below average every day meat delivery man for his father's local meat store. His life really isn't going anywhere and his on-again off-again girlfriend, Emma (more off-again at that moment)(Cobie Smulders) has had enough.

Especially when she finds out some shocking news that has her laying down the law: either David shapes up or ships out!

That's not the least of David's worries though; through the visit of an unknown lawyer, he's informed his multiple visits and donations to a sperm bank 20 years ago has lead to him fathering 533 children, all of which have petitioned the courts to find out who their real father is.

With the help of his kind-of lawyer friend Brett(Chris Pratt), they fight to have his identity kept a secret from all 533 children, his girlfriend Emma, and the world, but as David gets to know his children in a very unconventional way, his attitude and life shift, leading him to finally grow up and learn what fatherhood is all about.

My Thoughts:

When invited to an advanced screening of this film back in July, I didn't really know much about it. It had Vince Vaughn in it, so I went ahead and assumed it would have his overly comedic signature "style," which I was a little hesitant about because I'm not much on those types of films.

Having sat through the whole movie, I can honestly say I was 110% wrong!

While the movie definitely still has Vaughn's comedic touch to it which has you laughing throughout the whole thing, it also has amazing heart and warmth to it. You question the storyline in the beginning not sure where the plot is going to take you but as you sit and watch, you're brought to tears (at least I was) at how incredibly heartwarming Vaughn's character turns out to be.

The acting is definitely top notch in this movie as is the storyline! Yes, it is a little predictable but with how amazing this movie is you're not really going to care.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll definitely love this movie!

Black Friday Sales from Coupons. com & Giveaway(11/29)

I was provided a promotional item by Coupons. com to inform you of their crazy insane Black Friday Sales, their top 10 gifts giveaway and our $500 giveaway. The holidays are upon us once again and if you haven't given any thought to your holiday shopping yet, you might want to get on that! I just checked and as of today, there is only 32 more days until Christmas to get that shopping done and over with.

And that's not even including all the other gift-giving holidays, parties, and even some holiday birthdays thrown in the mix either!

To make things a little easy for family and friends, I've gone ahead and created a holiday wish list that includes 10 things that I REALLY want--of course some of the stuff on the list (I.E. Xpole and Canon camera) are too expensive and I wouldn't let anyone buy them for me regardless, but they're included because it's a wish list: I WISH to have them....

1. Harper's Island is a mini-television horror series that premiered back in the early 2000's which I did not miss a single episode of! I loved it then and I'd love to have the whole series on DVD now.

2. These stepped pliers will help be break into doing more wire-work with my handcrafted jewelry designs!

3. Like the stepped pliers, the bail-forming pliers will help me further my jewelry making skills, too.

4. I've wanted an Xpole since I started pole dancing 3 years ago. Still on my wish list!

5. I saw this neat old fashion telephone you talk through that plugs into your cell phone. I. Must. Have. This.

6. I've been in need of some new sports bras for pole and yoga and I love the Avia brand, which is why I added it to my list. Plus it's purple.

7. There are some pretty neat workout bags that incorporate many different compartments for your stuff like yoga mats, water bottles, workout gear, etc. and since I'm hoping to start working out again, I'd love one to keep all my gear in!

8. I was so sad when my prior television died, not so much because of the tv itself, but because it had an awesome DVD/VCR combo built in. If I can't have one build in, I'd still like a standalone DVD/VCR for my new tv.

9. I'm a HUGE Fast and Furious fan so it's no wonder I need to add the newest to my collection.

10. The Canon EOS Rebel t3i. There's really no further need for explanation *drool*

Gilded Reverie Lenormand Oracle Deck by Ciro Marchetti Review

It all started with a simple deck of tarot cards years ago as a Christmas present (yes, I know how ironic that is). Thus started my love of all things divination! That seemingly simple deck of cards helped me understand myself better and get more connected to my intuition; to this day I still have that original deck and have branched out to own several more!

Reading for people, as well as myself, is such a wonderful experience and gives me quite a sense of peace and understanding with each session that I do.

This is why I'm beyond thankful for the opportunity to review the newest edition of Ciro Marchetti's Gilded Reverie Lenormand deck because not only is it a new deck to play with, it's a whole new concept in and of itself to learn more about!

"The Gilded Reverie Lenormand is a continuation of a card-reading tradition dating back to the late 18th and into the 19th century. The design of this deck is to respect the tradition whilst providing a new vision for the future.

It is hoped that this Gilded Reverie deck provides you a wonderful tool of fortune telling, divination, and discovery; giving you access to an antique tradition in a contemporary presentation. As the Lenormand tradition is revived, these cards will come to speak more fully, and you are now part of that oracular voice, returning from the ages. Allow the cards to tell you their story and in doing so, discover your own."

The Deck:

This beautiful 36-card deck comes in a convenient and nifty little box that resembles a small book. This box opens on the side and is magnetized for safe-keeping of the oracle deck that comes inside. Aside form the oracle deck itself, you'll find a 48-page booklet which provides insightful and interesting interpretations for each card in the deck.

The cards themselves have a glossy sheen, are a size that make them easy to handle, and the card stock of each individual card is hefty and not easily bendable, all of which combine to make this deck quite durable!

I also think the golden gilded edges are a perfect touch to this deck!

The Artwork:

I will definitely say that the Gilded Reverie Lenormand 36-card oracle deck and its artwork is different than anything I've come across before, especially from the 3 oracle decks that I currently own. The artwork is derived from the original Lenormand deck, said to be created after Marie Anne Lenormand passed away, dating back all the way to the 1800's!

Ciro Marchetti, the artist of this deck, is an award-winning artist who has designed five tarot and oracle decks including Tarot of Dreams and Oracle of Visions. The newest creation of Marchetti has incredibly vivid colors and while the images are more simpler in design then what I'm used to, they're still exceptionally stunning. Then again I'm not really familiar with Lenormand decks (this is the first one I own), so it's no wonder that it's going to differ!

Above are 4 of my favorite cards just to display a little bit of what this deck has to offer.

The Messages:

Like the deck itself, the messages contained in the 48-page booklet were fairly new to me, somewhat resembling that of a regular tarot deck. Each card has it's own interpretation and they're pretty straightforward, describing each card and 'predicting' things such as love, success, and money to just name a few.

Don't let this seemingly simple deck fool you, though! It's extremely intricate when it comes to interpretation; each card's position in a reading has a significant meaning as well which is explained within the booklet. Not only do you interpret the card itself, but you also have to be cognizant of the spread you're using, the individual cards in each spread, and where each card is positioned because it's all interconnected to mean something.

While I prefer freely interpreting my own way instead of having guidelines, this deck definitely intrigues me and I'm quite excited to be able to learn more about it and the Lenormand legacy!

Health Update Thursday(11/21)

Boy, has it been one crazy week since my birthday on Sunday! Lots of wonderful birthday surprises, one of which has been staying with me since Sunday which is why I haven't gotten much blogging and social media upkeep done the past couple of days (more of that to be explained later of course).

I was doing very well with the exception of the normal daily fatigue and pain up to and through the day of my birthday but my celebration unfortunately ended the day after when my body crashed due to a little too much celebrating-yes ladies and gentleman, I overdid it!

While I was a little surprised, I now look back and realize I shouldn't have been too surprised that I overdid it. Monday did start pretty well with a bunch of us getting out to see the new Thor movie, but things hit once I sat down in the movie theater-two hours of a very uncomfortable Kayla was not my idea of a good time, but I made the best of it.

After that, we had to head to Target to get a few things and that's when things went downhill. My boyfriend actually had to escort me out because I was in tears at the pain I was in. My body has pretty bad timing, too, because I had a 4 hour class that evening and with me not being able to sit for more than 5 minutes, my class was most definitely not happening.

Anyway, since Monday I've been not doing so good. While I'm still mobile and moving around, it's extremely painful and I'm having quite a bit of 'lady' issues. Considering my time of month is rapidly drawing near, that explains half the stuff I've been going through up until now!

Lots of pelvic and 'lady region' pain on top of the leg aching, muscle, joint, and nerve pain I've been experiencing. This month is also one of those emotional months that has me near tears at every little thing and, I admit, I'm definitely cranky to my family and boyfriends' dismay.

Currently I'm just waiting to get my period so things can (hopefully) go back to "normal" in time for Thanksgiving. I'd really like to enjoy the holiday relatively healthy, minimal pain, and not on the verge of tears!

On an off note, I'm almost done with my online class so that will also free up more time for me to get back to my Etsy shop and blogging, which has me quite excited because I'm most definitely behind.

Hope all of you are having a wonderful week!

To the Brave Men & Woman Who Serve: Thank You!

I would like to take a moment to stop what I'm doing and give thanks to those who have served-past, present, and future-and whom fought, and continue to fight, for our everyday freedoms.

It's easy to forget in the chaos of our day-to-day lives, but those who lay THEIR lives on the line day-to-day to fight and protect us are the ones who allow us our sometimes chaotic but always beautiful days!

So not only is today a day to keep that in mind, but we also give thanks to those people who choose to devote their lives to the millions of people they hardly know. If that isn't sacrifice, I couldn't tell you what is.

Today is only 1 day out of 365 days in a year, though.

My challenge to you is celebrate those individuals who sacrifice for you not only 1 day, but all 365 days!

Thank you all for your wonderful contribution to our lives, society, and the world!

Isis Oracle Deck by Alana Fairchild *Review*

Disclaimer: I received the Isis Oracle by Alana Fairchild in order to facilitate this honest review. All opinions are 100% mine and mine alone unless otherwise stated. Please do your own research before committing to purchase a product or service because your opinions may vary.

Some of you may or may not know this about me, but I'm very passionate about my spirituality and connection to the Universe. While I'm not religious, I'm very spiritual and yes, there is difference between the two. I enjoy divination, reading about all sorts of things from Shamanism all the way to astrology, and even going to drumming and healing circles in the area.

Awhile ago I was lucky enough to not only review a new oracle deck that had just been released, but I was also able to interview it's creator, Alana Fairchild!

The Kuan Yin Oracle deck was absolutely stunning and Alana was such a beautiful soul who put a lot of time and energy into her work and it most definitely showed through the vivid colors and gorgeous images in her deck as well as the interpretation of each card.

Fast forward a little while later when I was contacted to do another review by US Games Inc., this time of Alana's newest oracle deck, the Isis Oracle. Enjoying her Kuan Yin Oracle so much, how could I refuse?!

"I have loved you since ancient times, dear child of the light, Initiate of the Soul Path. I honour your light and seek to serve your growth. Even through darkest challenge, I am there with you, urging you to seek the light through the darkness and realize that you will always triumph with love in your heart. I honour your service to the path that I serve, the path of ancient feminine power, the path of healing, love and the mysteries of life, death, and rebirth. Power to you, beloved Initiate, love to you. What joy there is in meeting you again this lifetime.

Going into this review, I quite honestly didn't know much about the goddess Isis. I knew the fundamentals, (Egyptian, priestess, guide) but that's about it so I was quite excited to get to learn more about this ancient Egyptian goddess and what she could bring into my life!

The Deck

First and foremost aside from eye-catching design, I prefer larger cards when it comes to my tarot and oracle decks (I find larger cards easier to work with), so when I opened the deck and found the cards to be of a larger size, I was pretty darn happy! Each card in this 44-card deck is made of a nice and sturdy card stock and finished off with a beautiful glossy sheen; no worries about spillage of any kind because it can be wiped right off.

The deck itself comes in a gorgeous box that also carries a glossy sheen. Whether you choose to keep your cards in the box they come in or somewhere else, they'll no doubt be nice and safe!

The Artwork

This time around Alana Fairchild teamed up with Jimmy Manton, an award-winning illustrator whose works have been featured in several different magazines and publications, to bring to life the goddess Isis and all things Egyptian in this oracle deck.

Jimmy's images are nothing short of extraordinary. As I flipped through each of the 44 cards in this deck for the first time, I'm not ashamed to say I teared up because they were SO soul-capturingly beautiful! To say he brings to life Isis and everything Egyptian in his artwork is a true understatement; his images on each card are so incredibly rich with detail and color that each transports you to a different time and place in ancient Egypt.

The Messages

Along with the 44 cards in the deck, you will find a 220-page illustrated guidebook written by Alana. Each card has a specific uplifting message to it and comes with a ritual you can complete to enhance your reading experience, and more importantly, your everyday life as well as your continuing spiritual journey!

Flipping through and reading some of the card's meanings and the accompanying rituals you can complete is when I truly fell in love with this deck. Of course the stunning imagery and the size of the cards definitely contributed to that love, but what really hooked me was Alana's style of writing; her knowledge of the divine, Isis, and spirituality as a whole shines right through each page of her 220-page guidebook and struck several cords in me.

I truly believe from everything I've read so far that this deck was meant to make its way into my hands because I can relate to so many things it stands for!

Health Update Thursday(11/7)

I know it's been awhile since I've done a Health Update Thursday post! The good news is that I'm hanging in there; the bad news is that everyday is constantly go-go-go nuts with my health, homework, Etsy businesses, blogging, my social life, etc.

It seems as if nothing every gets done and I'm going from the time I get up in the morning to the time I go to bed. Thankfully because of all this busyness I've learned how to multitask like a professional but that still doesn't help get everything done half the time.

I envy those website owners that seem to have it all under control!

As for my health, like I mentioned it's going pretty well. Still quite up and down but the good news is that I seem to be having more 'ups' than 'downs' this Fall and Winter. This is the first time since I got sick (almost 10 years ago) that I haven't become totally out of commission after I relapse in the Fall.

The fatigue is still always there and never really changes much aside from sometimes getting a few levels worse. I've learned to do my best to push through and deal with it the best I can.

Legs have been treating me quite well as of late; still have to be careful not to overdo it or stop doing what needs to be done to keep them babies working, but so far so good! That is also a day to day thing.

Pain level, as with everything else, fluctuates on a daily basis and with the weather turning damp and cold it's gotten a few levels higher but nothing that can't be handled. I can only count a handful of times it was up past a within the last month.

I'm currently seeking a new dietary plan to put myself on because I'm hoping that will help take some of the pain away as well as boost my energy and hopefully make me feel more alert. The only problem with that is I'm not quite sure what to try next!

The new doctor I'm going to prescribed me some vitamin D so I've been taking that and I have to order a few more things she wants me on as well as a few things my medical intuitive recommended I take. I'm supposed to go back to acupuncture soon as a treatment recommended by the new doctor so I'm very excited about that. Boy how I've missed acupuncture!

Keep your fingers crossed this is the extent of what I have to deal with this Winter! If that's the case than I'll GLADLY accept the daily pain, fatigue, and occasional use of the walker :)

Berries Over Bugs Petition: Tell Dannon Real Fruit Over Pulverized Bugs!

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions in the below post are 100% mine and mine alone unless otherwise stated.

Being a lover of wholesome, healthy, organic food, I understand that there are some things that can't be stopped in the pursuit of good products; a little dirt here and there is good for you, and sure, a couple little bugs you unknowingly might ingest is normal. Just don't think about too much it if it bothers you!

What is not okay is companies intentionally using downright gross and dishonest marketing in the pursuit of 'healthy' foods, such as Dannon yogurt using an extract made from the pulverized, dead bodies of cochineal insects (usually labeled as carmine on food labels) to give its yogurts fruity red colors.

Aside from that, while safe for most people, the coloring extracted from the pulverized dried bodies of the cochineal insect can cause allergic reactions in some of the population, ranging from hives to anaphylactic shock!

Cochineal Insect

Quite honestly, I really don't mind a few insects or dirt when it comes to truly organic and natural foods; as my mom says to this day, 'Oh well, just more added protein.' I've also heard of people eating a teaspoon of dirt native to their region because it's supposed to have tremendous health properties.

Whether there's any truth to that, who really knows, but it's a very intriguing concept!

What does bother me, however, is passing off crushed up insects, that are potentially dangerous to some people, as natural fruit color and flavoring and intentionally misleading consumers regarding this fact.

If you feel the same way and would like to be a part of a positive change in the right direction in regards to REAL fruit being the cause of coloring and flavor instead of crushed up dead insects, your signature on this Berries Over Bugs petition is greatly appreciated!

Help Dannon see the natural, fruity light and help them also usher other companies to do the same by switching their food coloring practices to something more healthy, wholesome, and safe for their consumers!
