Let Your Stress Fly Away: Bed of Nails Mat *Review*

I'm extremely interested in learning all about the different kinds of alternative healing techniques. I have experienced many different kinds on my healing journey; massage therapy, homeopathy, reflexology, herbal, acupressure and acupuncture, etc. Acupuncture, for example, uses hair-thin needles on specific acupuncture points throughout the body to give relief to a multitude of different ailments.

There are also different acupuncture and acupressure techniques a person can use-You can go to a certified professional for a session or you can use certain at-home aids like specialized mats and pillows.

Thanks to Bed of Nails, I was able to chose the latter option and try out their specialized mats!

About Bed of Nails:

"The origin of bed of nails is in Indian mysticism, and it is believed to have been around for thousands of years. Today it is "re-invented" in a more modern form, as a mattress with 8,820 non-toxic, 100% recycled, plastic spikes, harmless to the skin but with all the healing benefits of its legendary ancestor!"

Bed of Nails is similar to acupuncture; the pressure of the rounded nails evenly distributed against a person's body and skin may help the body to release endorphins and oxytocin, which provide a sense of joy and energy along with calmness and relaxation.

Use Bed of Nails long enough and you may see a difference in:
  • Stress
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Tiredness
  • Insomnia
  • Tension
  • Back pain
  • Muscle aches
  • Malaise

This product may also reduce the appearance of cellulite by stimulating blood flow to certain areas of the body and this can help break down the fat groupings that cause the cellulite appearance!

For this review I was sent their Green Sun Bed of Nails Mat.

As directed on the website, I do my best to bring out my mat everyday (sometimes twice a day) and use it for 5 to 10 minute intervals. The first time I used my mat I wasn't quite sure what to expect so I layed down on my back very carefully. Some people prefer to have skin-to-mat contact but for the first time I wore a t-shirt.

The rows of round plastic spikes across the mat do look a little intimidating at first but they do NOT hurt! All you feel is slight pressure and possibly a wee little pinch if you choose to not wear anything between you and the spikes. The cushy foam of the mat combined with the spikes come together to make quite a unique feel-good experience, especially since your weight is evenly distributed across the mat regardless of which position you choose to use.

I was simply astounded by the difference I saw with that first use! Like I said I wasn't quite sure what to expect but after I layed down on my mat and situated myself, it was like my whole body took a huge sigh of relief and continued to be completely and totally relaxed. I noticed the biggest difference after the 5 minutes were up; I got off my mat and was almost in a dream state I was so relaxed. In fact, I nearly fell right asleep!

I've taken to using my mat right before I go to sleep and in the morning when I wake up because I notice that makes a huge positive difference in my day, both mentally and physically. Plus, when I get a little too overwhelmed or stressed, I take 5 to 10 minutes out of my day to lay on my mat and just be.

I can honestly say Bed of Nails has definitely had a positive impact on my life since receiving it! If you're curious, you can check out the company's Testimonials and see what other praise people are giving these great products!

Warning: Bed of Nails does come with sharp plastic spikes that can be potentially dangerous to people, children and or animals. Please be conscious when using this product and take proper precautions (keeping away from children and animals) when using and storing!

Happy Memorial Day Friends!

This is a re-post from my last year's Memorial Day post.
It best represents my thoughts and what I have to say regarding this special holiday.

Happy Memorial day to all my friends, fans, and readers!

Today is a day to celebrate not only the freedom that we enjoy every single day, but, more importantly, it is also a celebration for those people, past, present, and future, who help PROTECT that freedom.

I have several friends and acquaintances in different branches of the military and I couldn't be more proud of them and what they do for us all; I wish I could give them a big hug right now, but these words and this post will have to do!

So keeping them in mind, I hope you all have a beautiful and safe holiday today filled with family, friends, and great weather  ^.^

If you happen to know someone who served, is serving, or will serve in any part of the military or you happen to come across someone who has, take a moment to thank them and let them know they are appreciated!

Weigh In Wednesday(5/15)

I'm joining up with Rebecca of Everyday Life in her journey to get fit and be healthier and happier!
Now that I've started getting active, I think the best way to STAY active is by holding myself accountable; Weigh in Wednesday will help me do that and hopefully inspire all of YOU to get active, too!

********************************************************

Week in Rewind

Wednesday:
  • The day started off slow but towards the later afternoon I was able to go out with a friend and play my first game of 'frolf' (frisbee golf) on an 18 'hole' course and then go for a long evening walk when I got home.

Thursday:
  • Was able to head down to Dekalb for a friend's photography gallery show and did a lot of on-my-feet (in heels mind you) helping and mingling for several hours. After that we all went out to the bar (changed into my roos) and danced the night away!

Friday:
  •  Needed to recoop from Thursday so no exercise today.

Saturday:
  • Was feeling super anxious all day so I ended up going on a long walk in the evening around my neighborhood, getting lost, and wandering until I found something that looked familiar. LOL

Sunday:
  •  Drove 3 hours up to Wisconsin to see my sister, packed up most of her stuff from college for about an hour and a half, and drove 3 hours back home.

Monday:
  •  Didn't do much during the day but I hung out with a friend towards the evening and we ended up going on a long walk and playing on a nearby playground.

Tuesday:
  • Pulled a double today-Pole at 5pm and yoga at 6pm! Finally hit the Superman, too!

Food Report

I must say I didn't do TOO horribly on my food consumption this week prior to the past two or so weeks, but it still wasn't the BEST either. I've noticed that I can eat a lot of the 'crap' without having one of my normal bad reactions to it, which is exactly why I have continued to eat like this *shameshame*

I still feel pretty run down after I eat something I'm not supposed to though so I'm really trying hard to get back on the bandwagon with 80/20 rule: 80% clean, 20% crap.

Goals: This Week vs. Last Week

Last Week's Goals:

1. Drink 4 8oz glasses of water a day SUCCESS!
2. Cut down on my sugar intake SUCCESS!
3. Recite my positive affirmations before I wake up every morning and before I go to bed every night FAIL

This Week's Goals:

1. Drink 4 8oz glasses of water a day
2. Stick to the 80/20 rule when it comes to food
3. Weather permitting, try to take a walk around the neighborhood everyday

***********************************************

Have a healthy, happy and active day everyone ^.^

SITS Bloggy Boot Camp: Chicago 5/5 Edition

I've been a member of The Sits Girls for quite some time now and I love the way the woman behind SITS bring out the best in other woman entrepreneurs by helping them initially learn about blogging, social networking for bloggers, and how they try to help us succeed in the interwebby world by just supporting one another.

When given the sponsored opportunity to go to a mini bloggy boot camp in Chicago at the beginning of May, I jumped all over it!

If you're interested in seeing what kinds of activities SITS brings to its members, you can look at my past Fall Back into Blogging Series.

The Trip:

I always love going into downtown Chicago on the train! Even though I live close enough to the city to go in and enjoy it more so than a lot of other people around the country, I rarely am able to make it in for any sort of pleasure trips. When I am able to go however, it always feels like such an exciting adventure!

The trip in was long but the anticipation of the day and upcoming event was definitely what made it feel like it dragged. Once we arrived at the downtown station, I was trying not to have an excitement meltdown, especially when I saw my eagerly awaited first destination: Jamba Juice.

Once I received my nectar of the universe (yes, that is indeed how I refer to Jamba Juice), I was ready to leisurely explore my surroundings and track down the Hotel Alegro where the event was being held.

The Hotel:

I had never heard of nor been to Hotel Alegro before this SITS excursion, so I honestly had no idea what to expect. I was good and I printed out Google Map directions before hand, but of course I took them TOO literally and got myself lost from the get go. Good thing I arrived on the train with a few hours to spare before the event started at 5!

The hotel itself is located on the outskirts of downtown-downtown Chicago and from the outside of the pure brick building, you would never guess what treasures the inside held. I was in complete awe the moment I walked in the doors and saw the red carpeted grand staircase leading upwards.

Since I had quite a few hours to kill, I did a little exploring and fell completely head over heels in love with Hotel Alegro. What I liked most about this place was it wasn't your standard, sterile hotel--everything and everyone worked together to make it a very comfortable, cozy, and intimate atmosphere.

Part of the undeniable charm was definitely the mismatched, rich decor. I for one couldn't pin down a certain style in this hotel; it had the modern touches with the whimsical patterns coupled with an old world antique-like feel...and the colors! Oh boy, the vibrant and vivid colors found everywhere you looked.

Added to my bucket list shortly after visiting for the day is stay at Hotel Alegro, if only once!

The Event:

Back a month or so before the event when I initially signed up, I guess I was a little confused as to what this particular SITS event actually was. When they mentioned Invisalign braces and a sponsored opportunity, I automatically assumed that was what the event would focus around and was primarily about.

I had NO idea that it was a mini SITS bloggy boot camp and boy was I shocked and super surprised when I finally put two and two together! Never have I ever thought I'd be able to make it to one of Tiffany and Fran's bloggy bootcamps but here I was, right smack in the middle of one and I had no clue until that very moment.

I learned so much from these incredible (and absolutely hilarious) ladies about blogging, SEO, entrepreneurship, social media influence and so much more in the mere 3 hours I was there! Some of it was a refresher on a few things I've picked up in the 4 years I've been blogging, but a lot of it expanded on the basics and got into WHY bloggers need to do certain things and HOW it effects them in the blogging world, among PR and businesses, etc.

This event couldn't have been possible if not for the wonderful people of Invisalign who sponsored the whole thing from the hotel space right down to the appetizers and cocktails served, so of course the bloggers that attended got to learn all about the Invisalign braces, the benefits of those versus traditional metal braces, and we also had a Q&A courtesy of a panel of real kids and parents who have experienced both Invisalign and traditional braces.

Shout out to these kids who were pretty brave talking about their oral hygiene in front of a bunch of social media crazed bloggers!

It all makes me wish I had known the details of Invisalign when I was in school and was required to have traditional braces for nearly two years. Talk about an awkward stage in my life...

The Wrap-up:

Normally when I'm invited to an event in advance, I decline due to health fears but I'm super happy that I took that leap of faith and signed up! This SITS mini bloggy boot camp was WELL worth going into the Windy City for-I learned a ton of new information, met some awesome bloggers, saw some old friends, and have gotten some wonderful opportunities out of the trip!

It renewed my passions for blogging and the interwebby world and now I have so many new and exciting ideas.

A big thank you to Tiffany and Fran of The SITS Girls and Invisalign for putting together this incredible event and opportunity for everyone who attended!

Disclaimer:: This event was completely sponsored by Invisalign so I was able to attend for free. All opinions expressed above are 100% mine and mine alone unless otherwise stated.

My Beautiful Little Angel

As most of you are aware, yesterday was Mother's Day. A day to celebrate the mother figure in your life whether they are your biological mother or a mother-like figure and to acknowledge all other mothers out there, traditional and non-traditional alike.

For the past 2 years, Mother's Day has been a bittersweet holiday for me and I'm finally ready to come out and share why, for the past 2 years, it's both a celebration and a time of mourning for me: I lost a baby back in December of 2011.

At the time I wasn't ready to come out and share the fact that I was pregnant and lost the baby because, depending on who you're talking to, technically speaking I didn't lose the baby. When I initially found out I was pregnant, I had gone to the emergency room and was immediately hospitalized because of excruciating pain that just kept getting worse and a lot of what was unknown 'womanly' complications.

Due to my medical status and the fact that I could barely move without the aid of heavy-duty prescription pain medications, nearly 3 weeks and a lot of soul-searching later, my now ex-boyfriend and I made the unbearable decision to terminate the pregnancy for my own safety. Doctors couldn't tell me what was wrong, but I instinctively knew that if I tried to carry to term, the baby, myself, or both of us would not make it and that was a risk we couldn't take.

It was a difficult time for both myself and my ex-boyfriend, as well as our families but I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the right thing was done. That doesn't mean that it doesn't still kill me inside; especially around special dates and holidays like Mother's Day.

I was definitely not ready to come out about my little Angel back then and I was afraid if I had came out at the time, I would be judged for the decision I made. There's no tip-toeing around the fact that regardless of the why, abortion is a hardcore subject. Some may think it was a choice that I made lightly so I shouldn't be allowed to say I 'lost my baby,' but I view it quite differently; In my eyes and in my still-broken heart, I lost a piece of myself the day my baby died.

Nearly a year and a half later, it feels right and I'm ready to come out about him and let the world know that regardless of what is thought about me and the decision I made, I love my baby with all of my heart, body, and soul and I look forward to the day he will either come back into my life or I'm able to finally hold him in my arms up in Heaven.

My 'coming out' Facebook status:

Mother's Day is a bittersweet day for me since I lost my little Angel. I felt at the time it happened I needed to keep it to myself because I wasn't ready and didn't want to feel judged for what we had to do, but now, on my 2nd Mother's Day, I'm ready and it feels right for people to know that even though I never got the chance to hold him, change diapers or watch him grow up, I am a mom and I will always ♥ my baby--"An Angel in the book of life wrote down my babies birth, and whispered as she closed the book....."Too beautiful for earth."

Happy Mother's Day!

"No language can express the power and beauty and heroism of a mother's love."

--Edwin H. Chapin

To my own mother on this special day, I would just like to simply say thank you....

Thank you for being there for Krysten and I regardless of what we're going through; good, bad, and ugly.

Thank you for supporting me in whatever I choose to do whether it's basketweaving (ha ha) or becoming a world renowned doctor.

Thank you for being my best friend since I was born, but especially once I became sick and I needed a best friend.

Thank you for leaving no stone unturned in this healing journey of ours!

Thank you for allowing me to follow my passions even though they may be a little unconventional at times. Case in point, pole dancing.

Thank you for being 'Mama P' to all my friends and making them always feel welcome and comfortable in your presence and our home.

Thank you for giving me and nurturing my love of anything creative.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the numerous other things you've done for Krysten and I!

To all the mother figures out there, I wish you a happy, healthy and enjoyable Mother's Day!

Comfortable Clothing from ClothingShopOnline.com *Review*

Now that I've done a little spring cleaning, a new wardrobe is in my future! I got rid of so much of my clothes from the past several years that my closet and dresser are now a little bare. I don't want to rush out and just start buying clothes however; I need things that I'm actually going to wear, that will last, and most importantly, that are going to be comfortable.

Cue ClothingShopOnline.com!

About ClothingShopOnline.com:

"Launched in 2012, ClothingShopOnline is a one-stop online shop for high quality clothing of all types and sizes from a wide variety of brands, no minimum order necessary. ClothingShopOnline provides the online community with affordably priced apparel from a variety of trusted brands, including but not limited to Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, Calvin Klein, Van Heusen, and Sierra Pacific. Oftentimes, low prices can be synonymous with low quality service and a fundamentally unsound product. ClothingShopOnline continues to defy industry norms by providing high-quality products, from renowned brands, through an easy-to-use web interface, at low prices."

What initially captured my attention about this particular company was the sheer amount of items CSO has to offer their customers! Regardless of your age, whether your male or female, a lounger or an athlete, ClothingShopOnline.com has you covered with their wide inventory of apparel and accessories ranging from the standard shirts and sweatshirts to outerwear such as jackets and pullovers, athletic wear like shorts and sweatpants to even wovens which include dress shirts, bowling shirts and denim shirts.

That doesn't even cover the accessories they offer either!

For this review, I was lucky enough to pick out several pieces from CSO and I'm really excited to show them all to you guys...

First up and what captured my attention right off the bat was their Bella Ladies' Flowy Draped Sleeve Dolman T-shirt. I'm a BIG fan of the more flowy and bohemian style of clothing, so this was definitely at the top of the list. They had quite a variety of colors to choose from but when it came down to it I went with a color I knew could be dressed up or dressed down and would go with most things.

When this little beauty arrived, I was just about to go out to the bar with some friends and I was contemplating on what to wear. It literally arrived just in the nick of time! ^.^

I was super impressed by the quality of the shirt as well. Immediately when I put it on for the night out, I noticed how incredibly comfortable and airy it was! I'm all about comfort when it comes to dressing and I have no problem saying this is one of the most comfortable shirts I've ever worn.

I wanted to give my review of CSO a little variety so next up I chose the Boxercraft V.I.P Cotton Pant. I do quite love my lounge pants so adding another pair to my dresser drawer was pretty exciting!

These particular pants didn't come with too many color choices so thankfully I didn't spend a ton of time making decisions. In fact, it was pretty easy once I saw the key lime green and plaid option!

I can't say I've owned many cotton pants like this before so I wasn't quite sure how I would like them, material and comfort wise. That worry was most definitely for not! While I ordered them a little too big for myself, they still fit pretty comfortably without being TOO big or TOO small and the material is very lightweight and breathable.

These even came with a wee little pocket on one side! Ya'll know how much I enjoy pockets ;)

Last but certainly not least, I opted for their Alo Ladies' Racerback Bamboo Tank. Again, lots of colors to choose from and this time I did have more of a difficult decision, but I ended up picking a gorgeous shade of blue that ended up being extremely vibrant in person.

I'm not ashamed to say I'm in love with this particular piece of clothing! It came shipped in it's own plastic bag, so when I went to take it out, I was completely in shock and awe by how incredibly soft this tank really is! So much so that I kept telling everyone to 'feel the tank' because I wanted them to know the softness, too ^.^

It is a little on the 'heavier' side for a tank top, but considering it's made of bamboo, that's perfectly understandable. The heaviness does in no way interfere with the performance, however; I ended up exercising in this on a few separate occasions and it was airy, breathable and oh-so comfortable!

While this piece is a little more on the expensive side, it's WELL worth the money spent in my opinion.

*****************************************

The consensus: ClothingShopOnline.com has extremely comfortable and quality clothing at a very affordable price that even impressed the ever-so-cheap frugal me! I have not one bad thing to say about any of the pieces of clothing I got to review. In fact, I have a few new favorite pieces in my wardrobe.

As for the company itself, I thoroughly enjoyed working with ClothingShopOnline.com and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for some affordable clothing! The customer service I received, the merchandise you get for what you spend, and the ease of shopping and shipping-all outstanding!

Iron Man 3 *Movie Review* #IronMan3

Movie Synopsis:

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) of Stark Industries a.k.a Iron Man is back in the third and final installment of the Iron Man franchise, this time risking more than ever when a couple of his past ghosts come back to haunt him, making his present, and potentially his future, a very dangerous one.

Alongside his girlfriend Pepper Pots (Gwyneth Paltrow), Tony has it all: fame, fortune, and a pompous, arrogant attitude that would stop anyone in their tracks--even him. When his attitude gets the best of him, he threatens the world's most powerful terrorist, The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and later grows to regret that heat-of-the-moment decision.

Taking the challenge, The Mandarin turns Tony's world upside down and unleashes an even stronger enemy then those he has faced in the past.

The terror threat against the president, the United States and Tony are all real, but everything is not as it seems in this action adventure flick!

My Thoughts:

Not being one of the hardcore Marvel and Iron Man fans, I probably can't do this review as much justice as one of them could, but I'll do my best!

Having seen the previous two Iron Man movies, I will admit that this one was my favorite of the three.

Not only is the acting A+, but the storyline and plot were very enthralling as well! I found myself getting sucked in almost immediately and calculating in my head what was going to happen next.

While there was undoubtedly a predictability factor to the movie and story, it was still interesting to see how everything played out. There was definitely a sarcastic humor that is well known throughout all the Iron Man movies and the action/adventure aspect was perfectly balanced by the storyline-too often do I get put off by movies with too much action, not enough story and vice versa, but no problems with that in Iron Man 3!

Plus I really enjoyed the depth and dimension they put into the villain this time around.

Have you seen this movie yet? What did YOU think?

Michael Buble's To Be Loved Album Review #ToBeLoved

When it comes to music, my mom and I have pretty different 'musical palettes' if you will. She's all about the oldies and what's 'catchy' on the radio, which is perfectly fine! I'm more versitile in my musical tastes, but I tend to gravitate more towards the Indie artists.

One thing we COMPLETELY agree on is our obsession love for one Mr. Michael Buble! When she found out I was able to review his newest album, her eyes lite up like a Christmas tree.

Michael's newest album, To Be Loved, is quite the jam packed album full of a lot of diversity; it's soulful, upbeat, and a little melancholy at times. You can find lots of jazzy tones, a little rock and roll, and even some broadway, but with this talented artist, are you surprised?

To Be Loved consists of 14 soulful tracks, sung in Michael's swoon-worthy voice along with a few guest singers who might surprise you:

1. "You Make Me Feel So Young"
2. "It's a Beautiful Day"
3. "To Love Somebody"
4. "Who's Lovin You"
5. "Something Stupid" (featuring Reese Witherspoon)
6. "Come Dance with Me"
7. "Close Your Eyes"
8. "After All" (featuring Bryan Adams)
9. "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" (with Naturally 7)
10. "To Be Loved"
11. "You've Got a Friend in Me"
12. "Nevertheless (I'm in Love with You)" (featuring The Puppini Sisters)
13. "I Got It Easy"
14. "Young at Heart"

I find it super sweet that Close Your Eyes is dedicated to his wife and all the other woman in his life-"I wrote Close Your Eyes about my wife and about the power of all the women in my life—my sisters, my mom, my grandma and all women in general. Let’s face it, where would we be without them? I Got It Easy, another original, is basically a song where I count my blessings and is a reminder to me and everyone to appreciate all the good parts of life. I’m a very lucky guy and I never want to forget it."

Knowing the story behind both of those songs, I think out of all the 14 tracks, they're my favorites! That doesn't mean I'm not a fan of the other 12 songs-While this CD didn't WOW me as much as I expected, Michael still awes me with his voice and the sheer soul and energy he puts into his music. The fact that he mixes his own original co-written songs with covers of songs like You've Got a Friend in Me and Have I Told You Lately gives the album even more depth!

Some people have stated that Buble should stick to the classics but I really do appreciate him branching out and expanding his musical horizons.

To Be Loved is now available on iTunes or Amazon!
