Mondetta Performance Gear *Review & Giveaway*

Now that I'm becoming more active and trying to exercise in some form or another on a daily basis, I'm slightly obsessed with exercise clothing and accessories. Instead of going out and shopping for the jeans or tops that I really do need, I gravitate towards the performance gear; sports bras, yoga pants, stretchy shorts...I think it's safe to say I'm smitten with fitness.

Thanks to Mondetta Performance Gear or MPG, I was able to feed my growing obsession and do a review of their fitness clothing!

About Mondetta Performance Gear:

"MPG, inspired by the smooth, strong movements of performers such as athletes and dancers, celebrates the drive, dedication and perseverance of these phenomenal individuals. MPG applauds their unyielding pursuit of excellence, through sacrifice and discipline, with respect and admiration. The brand’s versatility allows for more than just function; it embodies style and comfort by offering a range of clothing to suit any activity in any environment, at the apex of vision and vigor."

MPG has a wide variety of quality workout gear and accessories for about any type of fitness lover regardless of what you're in to! If you love bright, vibrant colors or if you prefer more muted tones, body hugging or comfortably loose, male or female, there's definitely something for you.

I was lucky enough to have the choice of which top and bottom I wanted, but surprise surprise (not really), it was one hard decision! Their selection and products are so unique that it took me a little while to finally decide, but when I did, I ended up with their Harlow Top and their Electrolyte Shorts.

As soon as my workout gear arrived, I did a little gleeful dance and rushed in to try everything on. Thanks to MPG's Fit Guide which was super helpful in determining which sizes to order, both of my pieces fit perfectly!

I had to wait a little while to actually put them to work, but the wait was definitely worth it. First with my photo shoot with A Woman and a Camera Photography, then at pole on two different occasions. To say these pieces of clothing are comfortable would be the understatement of the year! They're made of material that breathes and actually moves with you when you're working out.

I especially loved the shorts and wore them quite a bit, both exercising and just lounging around!

Another awesome bonus about my clothes--pockets!! The shirt had a zip up pocket to one side and the shorts also had a small zip up pocket in the back, both of which are perfect for carrying necessities like keys, an ID, or money if you don't want to lug a backpack or purse around.

Not only was I impressed by the clothing I received, I was incredibly impressed by MPG as a company. The customer service I've received couldn't be better, they're very prompt with deliveries and professional, and they are also philanthropic on top of everything else founding their charity, Mondetta Charity Foundation (MFC), in 2004.

This is definitely the type of company I'm proud to support because they do good not only for their customers, but for the country and the world as a whole.

Flower Power-eShakti Customizable Dress *Review*

For some reason lately, I've been in a BIG dress mood when I go out shopping. Every time I see a dress I like, it draws me in and I finger the fabric, hold it up to myself and think, 'man, I really wish I could wear this.'

Then it hit me: Why can't I?! Just because I never go anywhere fancy doesn't mean I can't dress up for kicks and giggles, right?

Thanks to eShakti and their fabulous clothing selection (which included many, many adorable dresses), I was able to do two things: 1. get a very cute dress to review and 2. get all dressed up for the kicks and giggles of it and have myself a photo shoot!

About eShakti.com:

"eShakti began as a small website offering basic cottons and modestly embellished pieces. As we grew, we were tasked with providing design and fit solutions to meet our customers' needs. Today, we are an international fashion design company making custom clothing. Offering both style and fit customization for women size 0 through 36 is the heart of our business."

As mentioned above, eShakti.com has a multitude of offerings from the many different types of dresses throughout their site to their lovely tops, skirts, jackets and even bridesmaid dresses if that's what you're seeking, all of which are totally customizable!

I was lucky enough to be given free reign over their newest Spring collection and let me tell you, this was quite the hard decision to make with the 20-something pages of products you're given to choose from!

Once I had it narrowed down from several open tabs of potentials down to only a few things, the decision still wasn't made any easier. That being said I went with my gut and also listened to the tiny voice inside saying, 'pick the pretty dress;' The pretty dress being the Mod Floral Print Halter Dress

It was a little nerve wracking ordering because I have a hands-on preference when it comes to trying on clothing before I buy it, but I was very impressed by eShakti's ordering process; not only do they have an extensive and detailed sizing chart that's simple to use, their customizable options are just plain cool!

My dress had several different customizable options that made the whole ordering process feel very hands-on, which I truly appreciated.

When the little beauty arrived, I opened the package and was in complete awe! I probably sat there for a good 5 to 10 minutes just looking at the dress and feeling its material--It was so SOFT. Of course after the awe wore off I rushed in to try it on and fell in love with everything about it.

I had several different clothing pieces come in for review so I went ahead and asked my photography friend of A Woman and a Camera Photography to do a photo shoot for me, which you can see how those (amazing) pictures turned out below....

I wore the dress itself for a good majority of the day and I really couldn't have been any happier if I tried! The fit was perfect, the material flowed and moved with my crazy antics and I, the print is so cheerful and vibrant...Oh, and there were pockets!!

I'm such a sucker for pockets ^.^

Working with eShakti.com was a complete pleasure and I'm super excited I was given the opportunity-I actually have a wedding coming up and thanks to them, I know exactly what I'm going to wear!

Music Moves Me Monday(4/22)

Welcome to Music Moves Me Monday 137th week!

This meme is hosted by a group of seriously great people-Dolly of XmasDolly, Stacie of Stacie Uncorked, Callie of JAmericanSpice, and of course we can't forget Cathy of Cathy Kennedy's Blog!

Also, introducing this month's honorary volunteer co-conductor, Naila Moon from Just The Stuff You Know!

Here are the rules if you wanted to participate::

First step: Run over to You Tube, (or wherever), and lock and load! Get your pick for the theme of the week.

Second Step: Grab our "Monday's Music Moves Me" button::

Photobucket

Third step: SIGN THE LINKY - Dance (follow) your host/hostesses, and grab their buttons.

Final step: Start lookin' for a partner and boogie on down to her blog, and say hello, and tag (follow) her/him, and leave a nice comment. If you've been tagged (followed) be hip, and get on over there, and tag (follow) her back and leave a comment.

**************************************************************

Seeing as today is Earth Day, this week's very appropriate theme is anything having to do with the planet, plants, animals, weather, etc.

Anything that pays tribute to Our Mother ^.^

Today's choice, song AND video, couldn't be more perfect for the theme in my opinion. Plus you can't go wrong with Disney.

Enjoy!

Bakery on Main Unveils New GF Oatmeal Flavors *Review*

I had the pleasure of working with Bakery on Main awhile ago when I initially discovered their absolutely delicious gluten free True Bars (you can view that HERE). This time instead of snack bars, I was lucky enough to be introduced to their gluten free line of oatmeals, namely their two newest flavors that were just unveiled at the recent Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim CA!

I know, I know, I can almost feel you guys getting green with envy ;)

A little about Bakery on Main:

"Bakery on Main was founded in 2003 with a simple philosophy: food that's good for you should taste good too. It all started in a small bakery of a natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Founder Michael Smulders listened to his Celiac customers complain about the taste of many of the gluten free options available to them. He thought that no one should have to suffer because of a food allergy or other special dietary needs, and made it his mission to create products that were good for them but taste like they aren't."

As mentioned above, Bakery on Main products range from their soft and chewy granola bars and fruit and nut True Bars to their line of instant oatmeals to even granola and fiber powder, most of which are gluten free, and all of which are certified organic and Non-GMO Project Verified.

Not only was I given their two new unveiled flavored oatmeals for this review, but I was also provided with their entire line of instant oatmeals as well!

Bakery On Main Gluten Free Instant Oatmeal is made with whole grains which includes certified gluten free oats, amaranth and quinoa plus chia and flax. It's also high in fiber, dairy and casein free, low sodium, Kosher OU Parve with no trans fat or cholesterol!

Flavors included Traditional, Strawberry Shortcake, Maple Multigrain Muffin, Apple Pie with their newest editions, Blueberry Scone and Carrot Cake.

I've never really been the biggest oatmeal lover but just recently I can't get enough of the stuff! I think it's because I never liked it all 'chunky' for lack of a better word. Enjoyment of oatmeal for me is when it's nice and 'runny,' which is how I recently discovered I like it. You oatmeal lovers know what I'm talking about.

I'm also pretty picky when it comes to oatmeal. The standard for me is anything maple flavored, so you can imagine the first flavor devoured I tried was the Maple Multigrain Muffin. This flavor I really enjoyed!

Next up was the Carrot Cake, then the Blueberry Scone and finally the Traditional (in that order). While I think Bakery on Main has quite a great product on their hands, I will admit the rest of the flavors in the line that I tried (I still have Apple Pie and Strawberry Shortcake left to taste test) just weren't for me.

Due to my sensitive palette, I found the flavors to be too overpowering and sweet. That being said, I really DO think this line of oatmeals had some great flavor and texture; it was just a little too overwhelming for me personally.

I should say the flavored instant oatmeals where overwhelming; when they advertise Traditional, they really do mean traditional! In retrospect, I wish I would have added more to the traditional flavor to make it more flavorful. I may just have to order some more just so I can experiment with it :)

While most of the oatmeals in their line weren't my favorite, Bakery on Main is still a fabulous gluten free company, both in product and in customer service!

Weigh In Wednesday(4/17)

I'm joining up with Rebecca of Everyday Life in her journey to get fit and be healthier and happier!
Now that I've started getting active, I think the best way to STAY active is by holding myself accountable; Weigh in Wednesday will help me do that and hopefully inspire all of YOU to get active, too!

********************************************************

Week in Rewind

Wednesday:

  • Was able to do about 45 minutes of yoga; unfortunately it wasn't the greatest workout. I need to learn more about each position and possibly put together one of my own routines to challenge myself.

Thursday:

  •  First day back at pole! Surprised myself with how well I did. Like one of the girls said, 'it's like riding a bike; you never forget.'

Friday:

  •  None

Saturday:

  •   None

Sunday:

  •  My mind was elsewhere today but I was able to get in a short walk with my friend around the block.

Monday:

  •  None

Tuesday:

  •  Nightly yoga class for an hour

Food Report

Thankfully things with food have been pretty decent; not fabulous but not horrible either. I'm sticking to a good, clean diet but I'll slip slightly more times than I'd like to admit. A few pieces of chocolate one day, a cookie with wheat the next.

Like I said, not bad by most people's standards, but still not great by MY standards.

Goals: This Week vs. Last Week

Last Week's Goals:

1. Drink 6 8oz glasses of water a day
2. Try to make at least one healthy meal for myself and my family this week
3. Recite my positive affirmations before I wake up every morning and before I go to bed every night

This Week's Goals:

1. Drink 6 8oz glasses of water a day
2. Cut down on my sugar intake
3. Recite my positive affirmations before I wake up every morning and before I go to bed every night

***********************************************

Have a healthy, happy and active day everyone ^.^

Tips & Tricks for a Successful Spring Cleaning

Spring has sprung in calendar standards but according to Mother Nature, some places in the United States are a little more springy than others! Regardless, Spring cleaning in any form is a must for most people when Spring rolls around. It gives people a sense of accomplishment seeing old things collected to leave while making room for new things, as well as a renewed physical and mental freshness that only a good Spring cleaning can bring!

As you can see from the picture above, I tackled a little Spring cleaning myself; a wardrobe cleaning, which was incredibly (and sadly) way overdue. I haven't gone through my closet or dresser in nearly 3 to 4 years! I even found a shirt from my Junior year in high school, which has to have been nearly 6 or so years ago.

Despite what type of Spring cleaning you're planning on doing in the coming weeks, here are a few tips and tricks I've come across and found quite helpful:

  • 6 Month Rule-The beauty of this rule is it can be applied to pretty much anything! Have you worn that shirt or those pants in the last 6 months? Have you used that Tupperware to store anything in the last 6 months? Did you buy a new gadget 6 months ago that you haven't opened, let alone used yet? GET RID OF IT! Chances are if you haven't worn it, used it, or opened it within the last 6 months, you won't within the next 6 months.
  • Turn on the Tunes-Nothings kicks someone's rear into gear better than some Spring cleaning tunes blasting from somewhere nearby! Like a good workout, music can be an excellent motivator, pushing you to feel that determination to get the job done right. So crank up that volume, pop in your favorite upbeat get-on-your-feet song and have at it!
  • Would You Rather-No, I'm not talking about the party game where I make you choose between outrageous scenarios you'll probably never be faced with. I'm talking about going through your possessions and asking yourself, would you rather have this knick knack you have no idea where you got that's been sitting and collection dust for years, or would you rather go on a vacation, pay off a bill, or at the very least treat yourself to a nice lunch? If your answer was the latter, try to sell it and put that money towards what you REALLY want.
  • Spring Cleaning Party-While Spring cleaning can be a chore to some, make it fun! Throw a Spring cleaning party and invite a few friends over. Promise to help them clean out if they help you clean out (fair is fair after all). I've noticed friends or family make you accountable for what you decide to keep and what you decide to get rid of and really help you reason through why you absolutely need don't need that two year old t-shirt that doesn't fit anymore.
  • Fresh Air-One of the more simple things you can do to help the Spring cleaning process along: crank open all the windows and let that fresh air flow free! After a whole Winter being tightly sealed, your house needs to air out and so do you; fresh air is good for the body, mind, and soul and will help you feel refreshed, which in turn will help motivate you.

Have YOU done any Spring cleaning yet? Do you have any other tips to add to the list?

Glee Gum Make Your Own Kits *Review*

This is my second go around with Glee Gum (if you're curious, you can view the first one HERE) and I'm thrilled to be working with such a fantastic company once again!

Last time was their extensive line of gluten-free chewing gum. This time, it's their make your own kits I get to try out!

Not only does glee carry some great products, what I really love about this company, aside from the healthy aspect, is they really care about the environment and educating the youth of America on things like the natural ingredients that they use, the different countries they cultivate them from, the environment itself-As they say in the description for their make your own kits, "as educational toys, the Make Your Own Candy Kits are designed to connect, create, and captivate!"

For this review I had my choice of Glee's awesome Make Your Own Kits and I decided to throw caution to the wind and pick the Make Your Own Gummies Kit!

Sure, I could have gone with the chocolate kit, but that would have been too predictable from a hopeless chocoholic such as myself ;)

Even though this line of kits is geared towards kids and are kid-friendly, when it came to actually making the gummies themselves, I was a wee bit intimidated!

Didn't help that I had lost the directions the kit came with and for the life of me couldn't find them. Glee probably saw that happening because thankfully they had step by step printable directions right on the product's page *whew* Talk about being ahead of the game!

For the most part after I got over my intimidation of making the dreaded gummies, the process was fairly simple. The instructions were very easy to read and follow and the process of finding molds and making the gummy mixture was a pretty fun one.

I do suggest picking and choosing your molds very carefully though; I attempted to find 4 molds and only 2 of them worked out in my favor.

Here's the whole gummie making process in photographic collage action.....

The only trouble I had was putting the gummie solution into the molds. It seemed to harden too quickly and suddenly it was stuck to the spoon and wouldn't come off! My advice in regards to that: Be quick!

After the gummies settled and came out of the refrigerator, it was time to wash them off of excess molding powder and give them a good sour bath!

I decided to do half the first batch plain and half dipped in the sour flavoring solution to see the difference. The consensus: delicious plain, but I do believe I prefer them bathed in sour ^.^

Voila!

I must admit that I received this kit before Christmas to review and, as you all know, I had some major health issues so I've been unable to do the review until now, nearly 4 months later!

My sincere gratitude goes to Molly and the Glee Gum gang for being so patient and understanding with my situation, even after 4 whole months. I've received nothing but kind and compassionate emails inquiring about how I was doing and working with me to be able to get this review done and up.

That coupled with Glee Gum's products, I have no trouble proclaiming Glee is one of the best companies I've had the pleasure of working with and I highly, highly recommend them!

Mailbox Monday(4/15)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

I was completely surprised and bewildered the other day when I receieved a text message telling me I was going to get a delivery.

That NEVER happens so I figured it was spam and forgot about it.

Little did I know the next day the doorbell would ring and there would be a package for me from who else but eShakti with a gorgeous dress to review-I gave you a little sneak peak but you'll have to wait for the full review ;)

I won a free product coupon for a L'oreal Paris Healthy Look Creme Gloss hair color and it came this week!

We'll see if I end up using it or giving it to someone-for my next color I'm thinking something a little more non-traditional...

Like purple!

A Passion Never Lost: I'm a Pole Chick!

Inside this door, past the cute little antique shop you'll find to your right as you pass and straight down the hall is a place I feel at home in and have for quite some time. Of course, this is the third studio the owner has moved to in the past 3 years, but despite the physical change of scenery, the feeling of comfort and of being somewhere you belong has never faded.

Back in March of 2010, one of my friends invited me to go to a local pole dancing fitness studio with her to take a class. She had been to a few classes prior and said that it was tremendous fun and a great work out.

If you know me, you know I immediately jumped at the chance!

To say I was hooked my first class would be a gross understatement. Once I learned the basics, the pole lifestyle had grabbed a hold of my brain and wouldn't let go. That first class was a gateway to a bigger passion I'd discover and cultivate little by little before, during, and after every class I took after that.

When I became ill a few months later, I unfortunately had to give up my pole fitness classes, the insane workouts I got, and the friends I had met. The passion for the pole never faded though; they say withdrawals get better over time but these withdrawals of mine never ceased even after nearly a year and a half to two years!

When I turned my new leaf recently, one of my short term goals was to be able to go back to what I truly love doing: pole dancing. The best news is after nearly 2 long years away, I'm back and, who would have guessed it, better than I ever was.

Here's a little peek into my comfortable little pole world...

While some things have stayed the same, many have changed. New pad, new poles (I've got to get used to these spinning poles!), new (awesome) teachers. Probably my favorite change: new equipment!

Look at that beautiful aerial ribbon!!

Just another one of my goals--to be strong and coordinated enough to take on that bad boy. And you haven't even seen the aerial hoop they've had up on occasion yet ;)

Thursday was the first of many classes I'll be taking at Pole Chicks! I even went ahead and bought myself a month pass, so I'm all set until May.

All I can say is......I'M BACK!

Will YOU Get Active? iTunes GC *Giveaway*

{Image Credit}

If you haven't already heard, I'm buckling down and slowly but surely getting off my big ol' duff and trying to become active again.

I say slowly but surely because after being beaten over and over again throughout the last 9+ years of chronic illness and whatever else life had to throw at me, this old gal's body (and I do mean old-some days I feel like a 23 year old trapped in a 90 year old's body) is quite deconditioned.

This is exactly why I want YOU (yes, you *points*) to take charge of your health now and become active with me. Regardless of why I became deconditioned, I don't want my friends and readers in the same boat as I have been; I want you to be vibrant, healthy and, most of all, happy!

I don't care what you do, just as long as you do something that involves a little physical activity everyday...

-Take a walk
-Do yoga
-Lift things
-Go to the gym
-Play with your kids
-Dance
-Walk the dog
-Stretch

It's better to become active and take charge of your health now than wait until it's too late later in life!

Everyone knows that iTunes is one of the leading digital musical, movie and book websites, but did you know in between all the latest music and newest books, you can find fitness products? From DVDs to inspirational books, pod casts and a multitude of different apps to the songs that motivate you to get up and move, if you look hard enough, iTunes delivers....

LÄRABAR's Day of Simplicity--April 14th

{Image Credit}

When I opened up my email the other day, I received a message from LARABAR, one of the brands I follow. The subject line was a simple one: "Day of Simplicity." Intrigued, I clicked open the email, read it's contents, and knew I had to share the great message with my friends and readers!

"From our ingredients to our values, LÄRABAR has always been about simplicity. As we celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we want to encourage our friends to move towards LESS: less wants, less shoulds, less worry, less harm, less haste, less stuff, less waste. Because after all, less equals more!"

This coming Sunday, April 14th, LÄRABAR is celebrating by pledging to simplify things; whether that means turning off all technology for the day and spending time with your family, going through your possessions and donating some things, or taking a walk and breathing in the fresh air instead of stressing out over something, do whatever 'simplicity' means to you and join in on the celebration!

I, of course, took the simplicity pledge myself....

Now the question I have for you is...

What does simplicity mean to you?

Let me know what you plan on doing Sunday to simplify your life and take the pledge! And of course a big congratulations on bringing 10 years of health and happiness to your customers LÄRABAR!
