Earlier this year when I had somewhat of my 'eye opening experience' or epiphany if you will, I discovered my love of all things exercise. Of course gyms and trainers are beyond my financial reach so free workouts and free workout plans are definitely what I seek along with my splurging on a monthly pole fitness pass the past 3 to 4 months.
When I heard Self Magazine's Workout in the Park was back in town to celebrate their 20th anniversary and make some people sweat, I knew I had to be there.
Fate seemed to agree because the Wednesday before the Saturday of the event, I won 2 VIP tickets on SweepTight.com to the event-SCORE!
I wasn't going in alone so I recruited some friends of mine who were as thrilled about healthy living and exercise as I am.

The train ride there was quite uneventful as was the
Before we arrived I was instructed to seek out the media tent which is where I could pick up my tickets (really they just found your name on a list and crossed it off) as well as get a neat VIP wrist band for myself and my friend whom I had given the other ticket to.
I swear the whole day I felt like such royalty!

We unfortunately were a wee bit late so a few of the earlier exercise classes like Sexy Stretch, Sunrise Salutations, and Stiletto Strength were either already over or currently going on. The good news is there were tons of more classes and things to experience so we weren't too sad!
Deciding to check out some of the sponsors first, we made our rounds around to all the tents. On the pamphlet about the event, it quotes, "Delectable treats. Fabulous swag." Let me be the first to tell you that quote was 110% accurate!
With sponsors such as Wendy's, LUNA Bar, Green Mountain Coffee Wellness Collection, Garnier, Smartfood Selects, and many others, this was definitely one heck of an experience! Both of my friends have never been to a 'blogger' event, so they weren't sure what to expect; needless to say, I think the picture below shows how excited they were at the experience. And, of course, the swag!
At this particular event, I was also able to meet up with my good friend Shelley of SweepTight.com! Thanks to her and her sister who put on that wonderful giveaway, I was able to attend this event VIP status so it was perfect that we got to reconnect and enjoy the event together.
Plus just look at those crazy awesome leggings of hers! Matches her personality perfectly.

The workouts they had in store for us were pretty crazy awesome themselves! There were 3 main sections: the Main Stage, the Quiet Zone which included anything yoga and Pilates, and the Reebok Fitness Zone that specialized in back to back Crossfit workouts.
While I thought about attempting to do CrossFit, I figured maybe save that for another day when I'm in better shape. That and the trainers scared the bejezzus outta me!
Out of all the workouts we participated in that day, all 3 of us unanimously agreed that our favorite was the last of the day: 2 FLY. 2 FLY, according to the dance instructors, means to freely love yourself and was inspired by the style, music, and moves of the 90's.
Below is part of the dance routine the instructors taught the crowd...
Strike your best middle school pose!
All in all, the day was truly amazing and I'm so thankful myself and my two friends were able to take part in the healthy sponsors, the fun workouts, meeting up with some old friends and meeting some new ones.
Hopefully next year Self Workout in the Park comes back to Chicago and when it does, I'll be first in line for my ticket!
