Mailbox Monday(4/30)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************
My boyfriend is going to be one happy camper thanks to Jen of The Mom Reviews!
He gets two boxes of his favorite cereal of all time {that's a direct quote from him BTW} and Star Wars stuff-what more could a guy want!? ^.^

Full sized freebies are far and few in between, but when I do happen upon them, it's like Christmas came early!

Cue the full sized MiO Liquid Water Enhancer I got in the mail this week-It's lemonade flavored. The only bad thing is it has sucralose in it, so off to the BF it goes...

I'm sure someone in that household will utilize it :)

I got a wonderful surprise from my friend Lu over at Crocheted Little Things!

We had talked about hosting a review and a giveaway, but unfortunately things fell through. That didn't stop her from sending me a little care package though.

<3 you Lu! :)

I'm always scouring Craigslist for jewelry lots and I scored big time this week!

Not only was the woman such a sweetheart, but the lot was EPIC :)

She put each individual piece in a white envelope and taped them up so opening each one was like opening a present on Christmas.

Food Dialogues-A Resource LONG Overdue!

Even though a chronic illness forced my family's hand on the situation, I'm quite happy that we {generally} eat healthy. By healthy, I mean we eat genuinely better then probably 90% of the population these days.

Due to moderate to severe food intolerances throughout my family, we can't go out to eat too often, so normally we don't and if we do, we opt for something a little healthier then McDonald's or Taco Bell.

We've worked to cut out HFCS, MSG, wheat, gluten, artificial flavors, colorings, etc. We're still working on it, but we're definitely getting there!

When we can, we hunt, fish, and forage for our own food. Speaking of which, my dad just got a wild turkey yesterday :)

We have several farmer friends around the area that supply us with our organic, free-range chickens and eggs, goat milk, raw honey straight from the bee's butt, greens, and whatever else is grown.

We do try to learn as much as we can from our farmer friends, which is why when presented with this opportunity to write about FoodDialouges.com, I couldn't turn it down! Here's a little about the USFRA:

"America’s farmers and ranchers founded the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) to start and lead an honest dialogue about American agriculture. USFRA has set the table for conversations with Americans to answer their questions about food and food production."

Personally, I believe the first step to eating healthier is KNOWING about your food; where it's grown, how its grown, what goes into it, etc and USFRA works to connect farmers and ranchers with us, the consumers, as a way of providing that knowledge.

These are REAL people answering REAL questions: YOUR questions.

Do you have a specific question about your food that you want answered? There are two ways you can ask:

  1. Head over to www.fooddialogues.com and create a dialogue where other people can like, comment, and weigh in on your question.
  2. Head over to the USFRA'S Facebook Fanpage and post it directly on their wall!

FoodDialogues.com is an amazing source of information that I think is badly needed to help people get educated about what they put into their bodies! I'm very passionate about healthy eating, so I just have to applaud the USFRA for taking this step :)

**Disclaimer: I was provided the opportunity to be entered into a contest for posting about this information from One2One Network. All opinions expressed in the above post are 100% mine and mine alone unless otherwise stated**

Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father's estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. In the course of fulfilling his father's last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie whom he never knew about (Elizabeth Banks). Can you say PANCAKES!?!

I heart pancakes :)

This must be a food week; first the Bisquick and now a free sample of Quaker's newest product, Oatmeal Squares with just a hint of natural honey nut flavor.

As if the pillow wasn't enough, in the same week, I won Happy Feet 2 on DVD and Blu-Ray from Jennifer of Eighty MPH Mom.

I've only won one other movie in the past, so this was quite exciting for me; just one more step movie closer to an awesome movie collection :)

The Hunger Games *Movie Review*

Movie Synopsis:

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has been forced to grow up way to fast since her father died; taking care of her mother through a deep depression and a little sister who counted on her to put food on the table, she'd done what she had to to survive.

Her only friend, Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), makes life easier knowing she's got someone to watch her back.

That is until her sister's name is chosen for the Reeping, an annual event where one boy and one girl are chosen out of each of the 12 districts of their nation, Panem, to compete to the death in The Hunger Games.

Suddenly, Katniss is thrust into the glamorous life of the Capital and their deadly games along with a boy she knows from her past, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). The two are forced to work together even though only one will live.

Romance, tragedy, and action greet them in the arena, but only one question remains: Who will be the one victor?

My Thoughts:

I literally read the book the DAY before the movie came out and I must say, I'm really glad my sister forced the issue!

In my opinion, the movie was pretty good and great; pretty good if you happened to not have read the book and great if you did.

Unlike a lot of other books-made-into-movies in the past that were just eh-so-so, I really thought this movie complimented the book very nicely. For example, things in the book that were only hinted at in conjecture by the characters were actually shown in the movie.

The actors (a few of them being somewhat new blood) did a great job, especially Jennifer who WAS Katniss Everdeen! Despite the fact that it was nearly a two and a half hour movie, I feel the plot line went a little too fast at times; I would have liked to see a little more substance to the different scenes rather then rushing from one to the other to the other.

I really did enjoy the movie none-the less, but I do suggest for those of you who plan on seeing it-read the book first. You'll appreciate it a lot more :)

**Disclaimer:: This is an opinion solely based on my thoughts and opinions of the movie in question and no one elses. I was not influenced one way or another to write the subject matter in this review, so if you don't like it or don't agree with it, that is your choice and I fully respect it so please extend me the same courtesy**

A New Kind of Racing-Spartan Race

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Spartan Race for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

SR_logo_banner.png

As my readers may or may not know, I'm a work out fanatic! Seriously, I love that burn you get when you're going through a workout and {while some call me a nutball} I love that workout soreness the next day; it lets me know I actually DID something to deserve being sore and to me, it's beautiful.

I like several different things when it comes to my exercise-my favorites consist of running on the treadmill, pole dancing and yoga. That's not the extent of what I do, however. When I find something that interests me, I check it out a little more.

Cue Spartan Racing.

What the heck is THAT you might ask?

Spartan racing is a new way to workout that pushes your body and mind to do and be its best through their multitude of different races and obstacle courses. Choose from a muddy 3+ mile event with 10 or more obstacles all the way up to a 40+ mile event!

So, regardless of whether you're a racing expert or a which-way-do-I-go beginning, you can choose what race fits best with your level! Not only can you work at your own level, but Spartan Race is designed to be fun for you and the whole family.

As they say, it's as easy as signing up, showing up, and never, EVER giving up.

Don't forgot that besides the races, provide its participants with a daily workout, a weekly newsletter, and inspiring blogs that will help you achieve your goal and cross that finish line within 45 days!

If you haven't already, I would definitely check out Spartan Race and see what it's all about-Who knows, maybe you'll find a race that calls to you ;)

One Day Without Shoes Campaign

"When you go barefoot in blue, each step is for a child in need.

--Essie Nail Polish

Last week, I got a random bottle of nail polish in the mail that I had NO clue where it originated from. Through a little digging and research, I realized I had won a sweepstakes on TOMS Facebook Fanpage; they had partnered with Essie Nail Polish to support the One Day Without Shoes Campaign by creating this new shade of nail polish.

Millions of children live without proper footwear, exposing them to injury and disease every day, some of which include dangerous debris, Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring soul-based disease, Jiggers, burrowing fleas that cause painful infection, and hookworm.

A single pair of shoes for a child can help protect against injury, and in combination with basic hygiene and sanitation, help prevent disease and soil-transmitted infections from being forced to go barefoot every day.

On April 10th, vow to go barefoot and help raise awareness for this great cause! I might just paint my little tosies in my new Barefoot in Blue shade and go au natural ^.^

{I'm talking about my feet of course}

If you're interested in participating or learning more about this campaign, you can visit their website, onedaywithoutshoes.com.

An Expected (Wonderful) Occurance

I know I have been absent as of late, but I do have a perfectly reasonable explanation that some most of you might not have seen coming...You see that picture above? That is the entrance to Rock Cut State Park, which is a state run park nearby where I live. And the current location of my part time job.

Say WHAT!?

You heard me correct ladies and gentleman-I got a job :)

The story is quite an interesting one. You see, I had worked here the late Spring, all of Summer and the beginning of Fall back in 2008 when I graduated high school. That was the best I had been health wise and I thought things were looking up. Until Fall rolled around and I had one of my infamous relapses and had to, unfortunately, quit.

Fast forward to two weeks ago.

I had found an old work shirt that fell behind the drier about a year ago and finally had a chance to return it because my family had pulled out our boat and hit up the park to go fishing. I ran into my old boss and we got to talking.

The conversation turned to my working life and this is how it went:

Boss: "You working right now?"

Me: "Unfortunately not currently, no."

Boss: "You looking for a job?"

Me: "Possibly."

Boss: "You want a job?"

Me: "That would be great! *smiles big*"

Short, sweet, and straight to the point.

That's not the best part of it all, though. I talked to my boss about my hesitation to work and my worries about health issues and my boss is willing to work with me and my health. We both agree that working will help me build back up my body and just as soon as I feel comfortable enough, my hours will increase from 10 to 15 to full time if I want.

This was my first and only "real life working" job and I LOVED it. Now I'm given a second chance to love it once more :)

I'm going to do my best to keep up with my blogging, too! This is another "job" that is near and dear to my heart!
