Himalayan Salt Shop *Review and Giveaway*

For as long as my healing journey (8+ years and counting), I've been interested in health and healing, especially after the first year or two into things when we abruptly realized that I can't go the traditional Western medicine route.

After that eye-opening epiphany, we opted for the more natural options; Naturopathic physicians, health-friendly treatments like massages and acupuncture and of course the little things. By 'little things,' I'm referring to things a person can do daily that might seem small, but make the world of difference! Eating organically, exercising regularly, sitting outside in the sun for 5 minutes to get your vitamin D for the day...

One of those 'little things' I've been wanting to do for a good long while now was get myself a Himalayan sea salt lamp and thanks to the Himalayan Salt Shop (www.himalayansaltshop.com) that goal has finally been accomplished!

A little more about the company:

"The Himalayan Salt Shop was founded in 2005 by Ernest Gaglione in the basement of a two family house in Bloomfield, NJ. Originally, Ernest had to lug his heavy inventory up and down steep basement stairs as he personally shipped each customer's order. As his company grew through hard work and perseverance, Ernest reached the point where he could afford a small office space in Parsippany, NJ. Ernest continued to expand by employing a fulfillment center to help with the shipping of orders."

Since then, the company has become the biggest internet retailer of authentic Himalayan salt crystal lamps on the web! Not only do they manufacture and sell different sized and shaped salt lamps, but they also offer salt for consumption, salt for healing, and salt for beauty.

Aside from being able to buy authentic Himalayan sea salt products, their website also offers many different informational resources, such as their Knowledge Library, Photo Gallery, and Testimonials.

I was sent the 4-5 lb. Himalayan Salt Lamp for this particular review and a couple days after receiving it and putting it together, I'm STILL in awe of it's raw and natural beauty.

According to the informational paperwork I received along with my lamp, turning these on and letting them sit heats the crystal, which emits negative ions into the air. Those bond with the natural positive ions already in the air, cleansing it and making it fresh to breath in! They also help combat EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) from electronics.

The 4-5 lb lamp is around 5-6" high, 4-5" wide, and is said to have a protection area of 8x8 square feet. It also has a wooden base securely fastened to the salt bottom with several notches carved in to slide the power cord under.

I was extremely impressed with how fast they got me my lamp, as well as the incredibly secure packaging! They even go as far as to include a 15-watt light bulb with each lamp purchase! If you prefer to use a candle though, feel free to do so; a tea candle is recommended if that's the way you want to go.

Setup was an easy 3 step process, detailed in my graphic below:

Actually, Himalayan salt is 'Rock Salt' or salt mined from a quarry, not 'Sea Salt' which is salt retained from evaporated sea water.

Rock salts mined in several parts of the world, including Chile, Hawaii, Utah, Bolivia, the Murray-Darling basin of Australia, Peru, and Poland are all marketed as 'Himalayan Salt' or pink salt. The pink color results from the presence of iron oxide.

Ultimately, salt is salt (sodium chloride (NaCl) and over-consumption of any salt will result in the fluid build up in the body that you describe. Any reasonable person knows to moderate salt intake and often elderly or otherwise compromised people are cautioned to very strictly limit salt intake. Both too much or too little salt (any salt) in the diet can lead to muscle cramps, dizziness, or electrolyte disturbance.

This has nothing to do with the iodisation of common (or refined) table salt which saves (literally) billions of people from disease and nutrient deficiency impairment worldwide. Iodine deficiency affects about two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of mental retardation in the world. There is no 'natural iodine' (or not a measurable or therapeutic amount) in Rock Salt, Sea Salt, Himalayan Salt any other table salt. There is natural iodine in foods (fruits, grains and vegetables) grown in iodine rich soil, but where this heavy element is not present in soil serious human complications arise is vast numbers.

Common table salt is not 'bleached' it is just white because it is mined from areas that are not rich in iron oxide.

Anything that you consume will be 'digested', including salt. there is nothing alarming about that.

Anyway, since we aren't really talking about salt consumption here but decorative salt lamps I'm not entirely sure why this is relevant.

Some of which include controlling and regulating the water levels inside the body, promoting a stable pH balance, aiding in reducing signs of aging, increasing bone strength and reducing muscle cramps. ('ve been interested in Himalayan Sea Salt largely for my badly compromised respiratory system (and because I think their lamps etc are very beautiful!)

So, yes, I am delighted to learn about the other health benefits! But I think what struck me most about your commentary/post is how really BAD regular iodized table salt is... (even worse than I ever imagined!) Thanks Kayla!
