Could Your Dog be in Trouble?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of homemadedogfood.com for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Recently, we had a little health scare with my dog, Jake. He's a hunting dog and is his body craves activity, but unfortunately my dad can't take him out and exercise him as often as he would like and with his temperment and inability to listen to the 'non-alphas' of the family, my mom and I, we can't take him on walks.

So for a very long time he was at least 30+ lbs overweight and we thought he might have been diabetic because he would go through 10+ bowls of water a day if we let him. He was very lethargic and the past few months we noticed he was having issues moving; laying down and getting up looked very painful for him.

That is until we got wind about a dog food recall-HIS dog food to be exact. Because of the high lead in the food, it was giving dogs liver disease as well as killing some of them. Scary stuff.

After we heard that, we had to do something; we slowly started substituting his old dog food for Homemade dog food. Whatever we had left of our daily meals we would put in a big bowl and mix up for him with other different things he enjoys like carrots and rice.

In no time, he dropped 30 lbs, he isn't drinking nearly as much as he used to and he's like a puppy again! Running around when someone comes to the house, jumping on daddy when he gets home, wanting to play every chance he gets-it's a night and day difference!

If you're interested in learning more about switching your dog's current food, check out this Easy cooked dog food recipe. While you're there, check out the Q&A, too! It's alll extremely informative.

Not only do we have to be proactive about OUR own health, we also have to be proactive about our PET'S health, too. You never know, you could be saving your dog's life by doing so.

Excellent post, Kayla! I don't have dogs at the moment (they have recently passed away), but I'm always interested in what's best for my pets. (I wonder if they have a cat food recipe!) I'm going to forward this on to some good friends of ours that always want the best for their doggie.

Man, it is scary with all these pet food recall, they can't tell us that they are hurting! Glad you guys figured it out :)

We usually feed our doggies some of our food each night mixed with some of the higher quality dog food. They really LOVE my chicken and ground beef. They also like rice, potatoes, scrambled eggs with cheese, and green beans.
People say I spoil my doggies, who knew I was really doing what was best for them.
