Slapdash Sunday(11/20)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

***********************************************************************

I was injured yesterday as you can see from the picture I took of the wound.

Can you guess how?

I was shanked by an orange O.o

From getting a splinter while cleaning out a lint trap to getting shanked by an orange I was peeling, I came to the conclusion that I get hurt through extremely odd happenstances!

With Thanksgiving this week, I thought this pumpkin pie ornament my friend Lu of Crocheted Little Things makes is just too darn adorable not to share!

It's actually in a competition with a plethora of other Fall-related arts and crafts, so if you would be so kind, head on over HERE and spare a minute to vote for her :)

It's on the left-hand side!

My Day of Birth...

Is TODAY!

22 years ago at 6:03pm central standard time, little Kayla came into the world :)

{Little Me}

Quite honestly, I don't have any spectacular plans today-It's going to be pretty quite around here since my sister is away at school and my dad is leaving for a  hunting trip this afternoon.

Jake the Boyfriend took off work though, so he's going to spend the whole day with me, as will my mommy :)

Although, Murphy had to give me a little not-so-welcome present on this, my day of birth-Let's just say being a woman bites the big one O.o

But regardless, I'm going to enjoy it as much as I can!

And take lots of pictures to share hopefully ^.^

Wordpress is a site that I'm not too familiar with, but I know many a blogger that LOVE it and wouldn't go with anything else! Truth be told, I've considered transferring my blog due to the rave reviews, and the fact that there have been issues to be had with Blogger (thankfully, not as of late).

Submarine *Movie Review*

Movie Synopsis:

15 year old Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts) is somewhat of a normal teenage boy; going to school, dealing with bullies, crushing on girls, namely, Jordana Bevan (Yasmin Paige).

Throw in his growing concern over his parent's stale marriage (Noah Taylor, Sally Hawkins), his father's depression, and his mother's supposed affair with an old flame who just moved in next door, things get complicated for Oliver pretty fast.

When Jordana starts showing him attention, and they start spending more and more time together, Oliver's priorities get skewed and he ends up hurting people in the process of his journey to set things right again.

My Thoughts:

I'm a huge fan of off-the-wall Indie movies and when I saw the trailer for Submarine, I knew I HAD to see it!

Redbox is a beautiful, beautiful invention :)

Anyway, I thought the movie was just okay-The characters were definitely interesting (I swear, Yasmin Paige looks SO familiar) and the acting was bizarre and odd, just as the screenplay calls for it, so I really commend the actors for doing a fabulous job.

The writing throughout the movie was decent, too. It was quite humorous in a very dry sort of way, and as said above, bizarre and odd.

The only complains I have about the movie is it seemed to drag, the plot could have been executed better (was a little all over the place for my liking), and it was harder to understand some of what the actors were saying, but I think that last one is understandable seeing the movie and actors are based in Wales.

All in all, an okay movie. Not magnificent, but not completely I-want-the-last-two-hours-of-my-life-back bad. If you're an Indie lover and have an odd sense of humor, I'd say give it a watch!

**This is an opinion solely based on my thoughts and opinions of the movie in question and no one elses. I was not influenced one way or another to write the subject matter in this review, so if you don't like it or don't agree with it, that is your choice and I fully respect it so please extend me the same courtesy**

Happy Birthday to ME!

As you all know, my beloved 4 to 5 year old Sony Cybershot point-and-shoot digital camera just recently went kapoot on me, leaving me alone and pictureless.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work for me because of two main reasons:

1. My internet jewelry businesses involve taking a LOT of pictures and putting things online-no camera, no pictures, no $$$.

2. I'm a blogger. By definition, that means we carry cameras; It's a habit. Birds fly, fish swim, bloggers carry around a camera. Period.

So, as you can see, my livelihood depends a great deal on pictures and a camera, so being without a workable camera sets me back quite a bit more then the normal college adolescent.

Cue my wonderful, adoring, saint of a mother.

Since my birthday was coming up (Thursday actually!), she told me that my big present would be a new camera, and that I could get it early if I found one I liked.

I must say, I hopped on that computer so fast and started doing my research-asking questions, comparing reviews, viewing ratings-I think I researched myself out!

And behold, the fruit of my labor born bought November 1, 2011 at 6:04 pm CST courtesy of Best Buy.

Isn't she beautiful?! ^.^

SHE'S PURPLE!!!!!

I've already taken some absolutely stunning pictures with her (which will be shared in another post), and I can't wait to do more exploring!

I'm thinking about doing a review sometime in the near future, too :)

So...

Whatcha think!?

I WAS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF ETSY AND MISSED IT!!!!!!!!!

Seriously!? I would never have known if not for my curious nature mixed with my need to blog things-I was going through the comments on this particular treasury while writing a post for yesterday, and noticed a bunch of people saying, "congrats!" and "Yay for the front page!"

No wonder I had like 50 items hearts and my brooch from the treasury sold soon after :)

According to CraftCult.com, the treasury was on the front page Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 at 6:00am EST (no wonder I missed it-It was at 5:00am here!)

Chirply Greeting Cards *Review*

Whenever I find a company that I think is just the coolest thing I've seen in awhile, you all know that I HAVE to share, right?

It's my duty as a blogger, and in this case, as a fellow artist, too!

It all started with a giveaway won over at my friend Callie's site, Jamerican Spice, for a $20 credit on a site called Chirply.com. I had checked out the site for the mandatory entry, but didn't really look at what they did--I thought it was just another website that created greeting cards.

I was W.R.O.N.G!

Here's a little information courtesy of Chirply.com:

"Chirply is a community of artists and design lovers that want to make better stuff through better design! The community collectively decides what the best submitted designs are, and then those designs are made into things we use everyday like greeting cards, notebooks, and art prints & posters!"

Different artists create unique designs and submit them to Chirply, where an Interwebby audience vote on which design they like best; the winning artists have their designs published and sold on Chirply.com! The best part is they get a percentage from every sale of their own winning designs-How incredible is that?!

Not only are the designs made into greeting cards, they're made into notebooks, art prints, and posters as well-so much for my regular greeting card company angle O.o

As an artist and crafter myself, I really appreciate companies like Chirply who work to support fellow artists in their artistic quest. It's so wonderful to know that our work, as well as the people, are supported.

My thoughts:

When browsing through their site to choose my cards (a $20 credit gets you 5 cards), I was just smitten with everything!

I'm a very unique and whimsical person, so the cards that are displayed definitely captured my attention from the get-go-It was just figuring out the ones I wanted.

After I decided upon my 5 cards, I checked out and eagerly awaited the arrival of my treasures :)

Which, might I add, came in record time! I was very happy and, truth be told, a little surprised with the shipping and the time it took to get my cards.

Amongst the cards that I chose, two of my favorites have to be:

Just as I was with everything else, the packaging of these cards was beyond what I imagined-Each card and envelope come in a sealed clear protective plastic sleeve with a single Chirply business card. Very simple and very impressive!

I guess my favorite thing about this company aside from the promotion of its artist and their work is the attention to detail they create, from the shopping, to the ordering process, to the shipping and packaging; they have the customer in mind the whole way through.

If you're interested in learning more about Chirply.com, visit the site, or check them out on Twitter and Facebook!

**Disclaimer: I was not compensated in any way to write this post-I won a $20 Chirply.com credit in an online giveaway through the blog Jamerican Spice. All opinions and thoughts expressed in the above post are 100% mine**
