Featured Blogger Friday(3/26)-JamericanSpice

Man have I been a busy little college bee over here! I missed the last two or so days, but I knew I had to bring you your dose of Featured Blogger Friday this week!

What kind of blogger would I be if I missed that!?

Today we have the very beautiful Colette (I love, love, love her name!!) from JamericanSpice :)

Now, Colette is a fairly new blogger to me, so this is an especially great treat because I get to learn a little more about her along with all of you!

Q. What’s your name and blog? What other information would you like to share?

My name is Colette. Beautiful French name, huh? I still have no idea how my mother came up with it but I love it! I think I should ask her :) I am SAHM of two children: A little girl who just turned three and a boy who will turn five in the next two months! I hope to adopt two children into our family and also to have more biological children. I am very shy but if put into situations where I need to speak up and lead, I will have no problem outwardly. I love to dance and I love music. I can't have a favorite song or artist because I love such a wide variety of music. When I grow up I want to be a dancer and a diplomat.

My blog's name is JamericanSpice.

Q. Why did you choose that name for your blog?

I wanted to join both my cultures. I choose part of the word for my birth country 'Jamaica' and part from my home country 'America' and added a little spice representing the me in it all. Hence 'JamericanSpice.'

Q. Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to start writing about my life in journal form because someone told me it would help in my healing, but alas, my blog is now wide open and I find it hard to share so much of the raw details of my life growing up without parents in the orphanages in my country. I still might do it, but it's taking some thought. It's easier to write these things being obscured.

Q. What kind of stuff do you cover with your blog? Is there a specific genre you write about or is the sky the limit?

That's where the spice comes in. I like to share a little bit of everything and so I don't have a specific genre. I resist the constant barrage of articles that tells me that this is how I should run my blog or I'm not a success if I'm not into this or that or have that domain etc. I allow myself to blog freely.

Q. What is one must read post that you have written {Include Link}?

Hmm, I'll have to go check :)
I did and these are a few of the ones that means the most to
me.

These are my favorite and most read:
Perfected in mama's kitchen: http://jamericanspice.blogspot.com/2009/01/perfected-in-mamas-kitchen.html

Hawaii - Our journey into amazing - http://jamericanspice.blogspot.com/2009/02/hawaii-our-journey-into-amazing.html

My little writer - http://jamericanspice.blogspot.com/2009/10/ww-my-little-writer.html

Q. Name one thing you love about your blogging job.

I do it on my own time and I get to meet some wonderful people from all over the world! I couldn't get to travel to so many places otherwise.

Q. Name one thing you’re not quite fond of about your blogging job.

Sometimes I don't get to visit everyone the same day or week and so it get's stretched out but I still save every comment so that I can return visits and share the love. I wish I was sorta super person so that I could return visits and comments on time, but there are so many people that it's hard to do that at all.

Q. What’s one random fact about you?

I won a dance competition at a club once :) I was first out of 30 people.

Q. Inspiration comes in many forms for different people. What inspires you?

Music has a way of inspiring me. There's always a language in music that is good for any situation that I'm going through.

Q. Where else can we find you(Personal Website, Etsy Shop, Twitter, Facebook, Etc.)?

It seems I am so connected now. *laughs*. You can always find me at these places:

First Week of School:: An Update

Okay people.

So, last week was my first official week of schooling with an introduction to Speech on Monday, and Biology on Tuesday and Thursdays.

I can honestly say Speech is Oh-Kaaaaaay.....I think.....We'll see when it comes time to give my first speech this Friday.

Biology is a WHOLE other can of atoms-Or was it molecules?

Basically, the Biology I took is condensed into 8 weeks like I explained, but I don't think I really comprehended what that actually meant at the time >.<

I've already been to class twice, and this Thursday is our first test on chapters 1 through 4, but here is the kicker:: The 4 classes I will have been to is the equivalent of 4 weeks of class if I were in a regular semester-long class.

What in the HELL have I gotten myself into!?

I'm just focusing on studying (ALOT) and breathing so I don't end up flipping my lid.

Good plan huh?

I'm trying to keep up with my blogging but I'm not going to lie; it's hard. I still need to find a good balance, but in the mean time, please know that I'm still here and not ignoring your emails, comments, blog posts, contest, etc.

If you guys have any advice on Speech, Biology, blogging or even how to juggle all three, it's greatly appreciated :)

Hope the start of this week is a great one for ya'll.

Love and Energies to all!
Kayla

Mailbox Monday(3/22)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

Early in the week, I got quite a few surprises!!

I won me some organic fruit from FruitGuys.com.

You heard me correctly-I won a 50 piece serving of organic fruit via Sweet Greens!

You should have seen my mother's face when I brought the box in from the delivery guy (who was such a nice guy by the way!). Can you say 'Priceless'?

Her eyes got all wide and she said, 'Wow. You won some FRUIT.'

Not only was it really pretty, it was EXTREMELY yummy :)

The same day I got my scrumptious fruit, I got my long awaited wall quote from Belvedere Designs, which I won from J. Leigh Designz!

I was ecstatic to get that because I've waited so long to be able to win one of those wall vinyls :D

I hope to be able to do a review in the near future when I get the beautiful thing up on my wall, so keep on coming back to see how it turns out ;)

I think this week was food week for me, because I won some more food which was delivered later on in the week.

I happened to win it from my friend Kailani of An Island Life.

I was able to snack on a bit of it yesterday evening and Oh. Dear. Lord-It was simply amazing {Maybe I'll get to do a review on that as well ;) }

The best part of it all is it's all organic, natural and even wheat-free!!

What did you get in the mail this week?

Slapdash Sunday(3/21)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?
That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

***********************************************************************

I just had my 400th follower giveaway and wouldn't you know the day that giveaway ends, I hit 500!!

Now I get to think of another great giveaway for all of you guys-This should be fun ;)

Any ideas or suggestions?!

I have been looking forward to the first day of Spring since the first day of Winter hit!

I was beyond thrilled when the clock struck midnight last night because it means out with the cold and in with the warmth and sunlight...

Boy did I get a rude awakening when I woke up-Snow. On. The. Ground.

To quote my friend Emily, "First day of Spring:: What a rip off."

Is it wrong to love an inanimate object more the life itself!?

Okay, maybe not more then life, but it comes pretty damn close ;)

I just got my Ipod touch yesterday and I can't seem to put her down!!!!!!

Charlies got a new little sister lovely named Charlotte.

Hershey's Better Basket Blog Hop

How amazing does that Easter basket in the above picture look?!

I can for sure tell you that I would love getting it (all that chocolate....YUMMY!)-What if I told you I was already gifted with that lovely, looking basket TWICE already....?

Virtually that is ;)

Thanks to my wonderful bloggy friends Kimberly of She Scribes and Angie of A Simple Kinda Life, I was informed of a great cause that's going on brought to you by Hershey's and a ton of different online bloggers!

Here is some information on the Hershey's Better Basket Blog Hop:

"This Easter season Hershey is all about helping you to create Better Easter Baskets with their special limited edition Easter candies found at Walmart.

More importantly, Hershey wants to promote the idea of going good in our own communities. The Hershey Company is committed to making a difference in the communities where we live in, and has a heritage of giving back to the community."

Thanks to Hershey's and 20 different bloggers looking to blog for a good cause, baskets like the one above were created and given to charities of each bloggers choice to spread Hershey's ongoing message around: We are ALL working together to do good in and out of our own communities!

In addition to those 20 baskets donated to charity, Hershey's is also sponsoring a Better Basket Blog Hop where Hershey will donate $10 per blog post entry for the Children's Miracle Network, up to $5,000.

How fantastic is that!?

If you want to be apart of the blog hop, here are the rules:

  • Copy and paste these rules to your blog post.
  • Create a blog post giving a virtual Easter Basket to another blogger – you can give as many Virtual Baskets as you want.
  • Link back to person who gave you an Easter Basket.
  • Let each person you are giving a Virtual Easter Basket know you have given them a Basket.
  • Leave your link at BetterBasket.info/BlogHop comment section. You can also find the official rules of this #betterbasket blog hop, and more information about Better Basket with Hershey’s there.
  • Hershey’s is donating $10 per each blog participating to the Better Basket Blog Hop to Children’s Miracle Network (up to total of $5,000 by blog posts written by April 4th, 2010).
  • Please note that only one blog post by each blog url will count towards the donation.

So not it's my turn to give away some virtual Easter Baskets:

1. Shannon of The Mommy-Files
2. Melissa of Outnumbered 3 to 1
3. Grace of Sandier Pastures
4. Angel of Angel Believes
5. Amy of Keeping up with the Schultz Family
6. Matty of Matty Thoughts
7. Susan of A City Gal Moves to Oz Land
8. Jenine of Badger Mom
9. Kailani of An Island Life
10. Jennifer of Eighty MPH Mom
11. Lu of Crocheted Little Things
12. Silvergirl of Live for Life

There are SO many other people that I would love to pass a basket to, but If I listed you all we'd be here all day. LOL

So please, please, please feel free to take the picture above and write your own blog post! Remember, it's for a good cause :)

For more information on the campaign, check it out HERE.

Happy Spring everyone!!

Love and Energies.

Health Update Thursday(3/18)

Where do I start!?

This week has been a whirlwind, yet all at the same time it feels like it has gone by comically slow(is that a phrase?).

I started my speech class on Monday and I'm pretty happy with it-The teacher is pretty wonderful and the class is great so I think I'm going to feel pretty comfortable giving speeches(or so I think...we shall see!).

Tuesday was my first intro to human biology class and as I sit there listening to the teacher tell me how hard this class is going to be, I'm pretty much internally tweakin' out a bit. Man, after I left that class my legs ached pretty bad >.<

FYI, stress brings on the leg pain and symptom flair ups.

Right now, I'm just trying to juggle my homework and not completely crash and burn-I'm slowly trying to take on the whole whatever-will-be-will-be mindset, but it's hard for a perfectionist like myself.

Oh, I did my second exercise pole dancing class yesterday with a friend of mine and I can honestly say I'm COMPLETELY in love with the whole practice. I even tried to get my mum to agree to me getting a pole for the house but to no avail...

*Sigh*

All in all, it's going very well! Although, I'm going to take today off to try to get homework and future posts done.

I still love you guys :D :D :D

Have a wonderful, amazing, beautiful Thursday!

Luck of the Irish

Happy St. Patties day Lads and Lassies ;)

It seriously snuck up on me-I was doing my schoolwork(don't I sound all college-like He He) and put down the date on a paper, and wondered why the 17th sounded like something vaguely important. LOL

I hope today everyone has the luck of the Irish!! Who knows, you may even see that extremely elusive Leprechaun that is rumored to appear each year on this day...If you do, tell him to head over my way because I'm in need of some of that gold he has stashed at the end of the rainbow ;)

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Love and Energies.

P.s. I'm going to wear my Claddagh ring ALL day today!

Judgment:: A Life Lesson

Judgements prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances.

--Wayne Dyer

I ran across an incredibly, AMAZING post by one of my blogging friends, Karie, over at the The Five Fish on the act of judging.

"What I am amazed by is not by the act of judgment, we all pre-judge to some degree in life, I am amazed by the wicked passing of judgment," says Karie. "The fact people will vomit malevolent statements based on their own ignorance. "

While reading this particular post, I couldn't help but realize halfway through that if I had to write down my personal feelings on the subject of judgment in a blog post, it would look exactly like hers-I was amazed because she actually explained my thoughts better then I ever could on the subject!

I love my family and my friends so incredibly much, my heart swells at the thought of all the possible love in one body, but I hate, hate, hate it when they pass judgment on me or other people, places and things around them.

Of course I'm not sitting here and telling you all that I'm judgment free, but I can honestly say I'm better then most people I know-If I catch myself passing judgment, I try to remedy my line of thinking or catch myself in the act so that I can exchange the judgment I just passed with some sort of positive compliment.

I hate to be judged, so why would I do it to others?

"Maybe the fact remains is that people judge so harshly based on his or her own fears, insecurities, bold jealousy, or the flat fact that they REFUSE to accept that other people have a way of life very different from his or her own. Thus they shove their opinion and “their way” down another’s throat, going as far as to violate boundaries, destroy relationships, exhibit public humiliation, and failing to find the even keel to say “I agree to disagree, your life, your decisions, not mine, no bearing."

So my very serious question for you all today is, why? Why pass judgment on others you really don't know or understand? Does it somehow make you feel better about yourself and your life?

Maybe next time you catch yourself passing a judgment about someone you really don't know, you can do what I do and swap it for a compliment instead. While your at it, pay Karie a visit and read her extraordinary post on judging others HERE!

Love and Energies.

What is Monday Mingle?

If your interested in participating, Monday Mingle is basically where a bunch of fellow bloggers get together and answer a few pre-specified questions through video blog, then post their video on their blog and link it up so other people can see your video!

Mailbox Monday(3/15)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

When I want something, I set my mind to get it. Period.

This is what happened when I saw the movie Whip It-I LOVED that movie so much and the soundtrack rocked-my-socks off, so I knew I wanted them, however I was too cheap to buy them.

Cue online giveaways and contests.

Thanks to my strong will, determination and a little luck, not only did I win a copy of the DVD (hasn't arrived yet), but I also got the soundtrack thanks to Kailani of An Island Life which arrived bright and early Tuesday :)

Of course, as much as I love getting products and freebies in the mail each week, I always welcome a good, ol' fashioned, hand written letter.

There is nothing like that personal connection between two people that email could never capture :)

I was lucky enough to get one in the mail on Friday from a Lymie friend of mine who ironically lives in IL, too.

For those of you who are always jealous of my mailbox each week, I am glad to inform you that I'm a normal person; I get bills too!

I got my credit card bill on Friday, as well as that lovely handwritten letter.

Granted, I only had to pay about $5.00, but still, it was a bill! Lol

What did you get in the mail this week?

{Image Credit}

First and foremost on this Sunday morning, I would like to tell all my readers, friends and fellow bloggers that I am not ignoring you!!

I've had so many wonderful comments on the site this past week and I like to respond to each comment individually, as well as checking out the commentors blog who took the time to visit me and commenting them as well.

This takes time and time is a rare commodity these days, but I promise I'll get back to you all :)

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

I start school tomorrow O.O

I just (like 10-minutes-ago just) bought myself an 32GB 3rd Generation Ipod Touch from Walmart.com.

You should see me doing my little music-lovin' happy dance!!

However, as thrilled as I am to be getting this new, beautiful piece of technology, I feel EXTREMELY guilty spending $200 sum dollars (my mum gave me money towards it for Easter) on the thing.

My 'Non-Traditional' Excercise Class

So as I told you in my Health Update Thursday Post, I was extremely sore, but it was an oh-so-good sore-Can you guess what I did?

I bet you can't!

Yes, it was a type of exercise, but as my one friend quoted when I talked her into doing it with me, it was an 'non-traditional' exercise class...

Tuesday, I took my first exercise pole dancing class :D

Yes, you heard me correctly! What is more interesting is how I actually GOT there-If you know the story of the Owls and Ireland, you know that I take signs very seriously and for some reason, EVERYWHERE I turned this past two weeks, stripper poles came up.

I. KID. YOU. NOT.

It started getting ridiculous when I had two to three run in's with stripper poles a day-That is, until I went to my Oscar party. There were for of us at the party and we were all on the couch talking, when my one friend turned to the rest of us and said, "Oh, guess what guys! I'm taking an exercise pole dancing class!"

I nearly flipped my lid-Are you effing SERIOUS!?

I told her all about all the occurrences and she finally said, "Well, you can come if you want..." LOL

So not only did someone want me to consider this particular class for exercise, they even went as far as to HAND me an opportunity! Needless to say, I took it with enthusiasm and I LOVED every second of it :D

I've talked a few friends into going with me, so the next time I get to go back is Wednesday!!

There you have it folks-My non-traditional exercise class :)

UPrinting Business Card Giveaway

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED

Even though I'm a 20 year old chronically ill woman, I've managed to do quite a lot with what has been given to me in the past 6 years I've been sick-This includes creating a whole jewelry design business, opening up not one, but TWO stores on Etsy, starting and maintaining a successful blog and much more (not to brag our anything...)!

On a somewhat on-but-off topic, it's amazing what you can do with 24 hours of free time 7 days a week for 40 weeks O.O

But I digress.

Being a business owner, there are many things you have to take into consideration-For one, your merchandise. For two, your customers. For two to be completely satisfied, you have to give your absolute best with number one; When you've done your absolute best, go a step above and beyond. This is what gets you noticed from the rest of the 'pack,' and what also brings people back- Maybe even referring you to their family and friends ;)

What above-and-beyond step is up to you, but there is always something you must remember when it comes to owning and maintaining a business...

Business cards are a MUST!

Hence, today's featured company, UPrinting.com; You may have heard about them around here before (their badge is currently on my left hand sidebar), but I would love to bring them to attention yet again.

Here is a little about UPrinting.com from their website:

"For over 25 years, UPrinting has been a trusted leader in online printing, featuring its signature easy-to-use website and the famous Free File Review, a complimentary proofing service which requires no upfront payment. UPrinting offers convenient marketing support services such as design, lists, and direct mailing to help grow small and medium-size businesses nationwide."

Recently, UPrinting has come out with a program that is geared toward helping different bloggers in the blogging community-The UPrinting Sponsorship Program helps bloggers by providing them with unique feature, review and giveaway opportunities, as well as other much appreciated things like their monthly badge draw and much more!

Go ahead and check out their Business Card Page-You can learn and preview anything you need to know before purchasing your cards :)

Oscar Party Recap

Thanks to my crazy, party-throwin' friend Emily and her obsession for anything Hollywood, each year us friends get together for an Oscar party.

As you know, this year the 82nd Oscar awards were held on Sunday night and I have to say quite honestly, this was one of THE. BEST. award shows I've seen in a long time!!

Last year, I was more absorbed with the party then paying attention to the show(this is probably why I got way more pictures last year then this year), but this year since we had a few people missing, it was a little more mellow and we were able to enjoy the show from the pre red carpet interviews to the entire awards ceremony.

Since it's in such high demand *wink wink*, here is a group picture of the four of us and the picture of me all red carpet ready(I wish I would have totally stood straighter and not stooped over >.<):

{Don't worry, that's not a real cigarette-Can you guess who she is!?}

I'm proud to say that I won best dressed a SECOND time-That's two in a row baby :D
My prize: The Best Dressed Pimp Cup!

Yes, that is chocolate in the cup and yes, the cup is totally blinged out-Isn't it fantastic?!

My favorite part of the show, though, had to be hands down the tribute to John Hughes with clips of his fantastic 80s movies and of course the tribute to horror movies(although, WHY Twilight was in that category is beyond me )-Oh man was I jumping up and down on my seat when watching those :D

If you happened to miss those or just want to watch them again, here you go!

{This isn't the best quality video, but it's the only one I could find at the moment}

Now, even though I had a fantastic time at the party and I thought the Oscars were fan-freakin-tastic, there was one pretty big thing that had me pretty angry: Besides the John Hughes and horror film tributes, they also put together a tribute for all the Hollywood actors, writers, producers, etc who passed away in 2009.

You may be asking why I'm so upset? They left out my girl Beatrice 'Bea' Arther and Farrah Faucet! Despite what people think, Bea starred in many movies and so did Farrah, so WHY were they left out!?

Further more, WHY was Michael Jackson in there when he only did maybe 1 or 2 movies?

Just my two cents worth.

Anyway, so there you have it folks, my Sunday night in a nutshell ;)

Love and Energies.
Kayla

P.s. Come back later for a fashion blow-by-blow from my crazy, party-throwin' friend herself!!

Bio & Sph

Remember on my *Happy Dancing* post I told you that I had a special surprise that I would blog about closer to the date?

Well it's closer and the surprise is not so much for you guys as it is for me!

Can you guess from the picture below...

If you did figure it out, Good For You! If you didn't, well, here it is: I'm going back to school :)

Granted, I only signed up for two 8 week classes, but when I'm done with these classes, I'll have 6 whole credits{which is 6 more then I had when I attempted school back in 08'}. I'm extremely excited and of course more then a tad bit nervous, but I'm going in with a can-do attitude and a smile on my face!

Here are the classes I chose to sign up for:

Introduction to Human Biology and Speech

I'm sure I don't have to tell guys that this means there will be some changes around my corner of the blogosphere-I'm not sure what KIND of changes exactly, but I guess we will have to see when the time comes!

My hope is that I can juggle school with my blog and jewelry business. In the mean time, there will be a lot of getting used to my new schedule so please bear with me while this settling occurs.

And most importantly: Wish me luck!!

Love and energies from a new college student.
Kayla

P.s Classes start March 15th (Monday)-Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Health Update Thursday(3/11)

All I can say is Oh. Dear. Lord. my body hurts so good!

Yes, I did, indeed, say good.

Why good? Well, I've actually been doing things non-stop since Sunday(although, I think Monday might have been a slow day for me)! You'll have to wait until Saturday to find out why I REALLY hurt, but for now, just know it's the good kind of hurt that tells a person they really did something to merit the pain :)

I know, I'm quite the odd ball-I enjoy this kind of pain ^.^

There really isn't anything more to say this lovely Thursday morning-I'm so busy, it's hard to keep up!! I can actually go to bed at midnight and sleep until 10 am(although that seriously cuts down on my productive time because night is usually when I get stuff done >.<).

Make sure to keep reading today because I have a big announcement, an Oscar party recap and a guest post from non other then my crazy party planning friend. *Whew*

As always, have a fantastic Thursday and enjoy every moment of the impending season change!!

Love and Energies.
Kayla

P.s. I have a spot open in tomorrow's Featured Blogger Friday post! If you have a blog and are interested in being interviewed, by all means, let me know :)

It's My Party and I'll Blog If I Want To!

You read that scrumptious cake correctly-One short year ago, I started a little site called The Eclectic Element thinking about all the advice I was given when it came to blogs and businesses. I figured it would be a good marketing tool where I could share my passion for jewelry design, Lyme Disease awareness and other things that randomly came to mind.

Boy, did I NOT realize how my site would progress over these last 365 amazingly
event-filled days!

I wish I could have had a BIG bash, but alas, it twas not meant to be-There will be a surprise later on today, however. *wink wink*

So since my blog baby is turning 1 year old, I thought I would share some of my firsts...

Enjoy!

-My First Blog Post:

'Pull Up a Chair and Make Yourself Comfy'

I find this completely funny because the first line states: 'I am creating this blog as a marketing tool. However I really hope that it turns into something more then just that.'

Boy has it ever!

-My First Comment:

This comes thank to Catlin from CaitiJo Crochet on Etsy and Caitlinesque on Blogspot!

-My First Bloggy Friend:

Of course you know this is going to be Melissa of Outnumbered 3 to 1! Although back, then, she was known as Melissa of Shimmer Me Blue ;)

Outnumbered Banner

-My First Artist Feature:

You can view the feature HERE

{Definitely take the time to read it-It's downright comical to see how far I've come from then to now}

-My First Review:

Melissa of Elegant Rose Boutique on Etsy was kind enough to send me her All Natural Incredible Chocolate Mint Essential Oil Soap-What she didn't realize was she was giving me my 'start' into the review world!

A very heartfelt thank you to Melissa :)

This leads us to our next first...

-My First Giveaway:

Win an All Natural Soap Bar of Your Choice courtesy of Elegant Rose Boutique!

This giveaway ended with a whopping 94 entries and was won by AngelFabs.

**Note: This giveaway has ended ALONG time ago**

-My First Award:

The Sisterhood Award from another one of my first bloggy friends, Chelsea of Mama Makes Money.

-My First Meme:

The ever popular Small Talk Six hosted by the gals at MomDot!
The topic that Saturday was six things you've always wondered about any of your teachers or professors when you were in school...

I also wanted to take this opportunity to profoundly thank each and every one of my friends, loyal readers, followers, subscribers and everyone else who made this incredible year possible-It's been a seriously wonderful ride and I look forward to the next 365 days!!

Love and Energies.

The Lonely Hearts Club *Book Review*

The Lonely Hearts Club

by Elizabeth Eulberg
Point
December 2009

Book Summery {from inside jacket}:

"Penny is sick of boys and sick of dating, so she vows: No more. She's had one too many bad dates, and has been hurt by one too many bad boys.

It's a personal choice...and soon everybody wants to know about it. It seems that Penny's not the only one who's tired of the way girls change themselves (most of the time for the worse) in order to get their guys...or the way their guys don't really care.

Girls are thronging to The Lonely Hearts Club, and Penny finds herself near legendary for her nondating ways-which is too bad, since the leader of The Lonely Hearts Club has found a certain boy she can't help but like..."

My Thoughts:

For a girl who thrives off of action, adventure and thriller books (not to mention a good serial killer read now and again), it's nice to take a step back from those fast-paced, dangerous worlds and pick up something 'refreshing' and 'light', which are two words that immediately come to mind when thinking of this book. It's one of those books that you can just read without analyzing or trying to figure anything out; You just read and enjoy (exactly what I did until 4:00 am when I finished the darn thing LOL).

Getting into the story a little bit, I personally think it's brilliant; If only I had thought of such a club when I was in high school! Although, I don't think it would have turned out HALF as good as Penny's group ;)

The thing that really sets this book apart from others like it, is how much compassion and ongoing support the actual story and characters contain-This is really what a teenage girl's life SHOULD be.

All in all, I would highly recommend this book for any person or age group for a relaxing and 'feel good' read, but I would also recommend it a little more highly towards girls just starting out their teenage years-I have a sneaking feeling that this story will help a few of them along on that rough road ^.^

The Lonely Hearts Club can be purchased on Amazon

I received a copy of The Lonely Hearts Club by Elizabeth Eulberg via a blog giveaway so that I could accurately write an honest review of the book-All thoughts and opinions expressed in the above post are 100% mine and not influenced in any way by a second party.

Monday Mingle(3/8)

Welcome to February 1st's Monday Mingle sponsored by Jennifer 'Speedy' over at Eighty MPH Mom!!

What is Monday Mingle?

If your interested in participating, Monday Mingle is basically where a bunch of fellow bloggers get together and answer a few pre-specified questions through video blog, then post their video on their blog and link it up so other people can see your video!

If your interested for more info, check out This Post-Happy Vlogging Everyone!

*************************************************************

Our questions for this week:

1. Do your kids have chores? Do you pay them to do chores?

2. Were you in Girl Scouts/Brownies or Boy Scouts? Are your kids? Favorite Girl Scout Cookie?

3. Does your family go camping? If so, do you have a funny/interesting experience?

I was sad because I was going to do my mingle when I was in my formal attire for the party, but we didn't get to it and I had to do it at home...But I'm still wearing part of my makeup, so I suppose that counts.

Until next week!!

Love and Energies.

It's Your Birthday!

Today marks the birth of my little sister 19 long year ago!!

I refer to her as my little sister because I'm the oldest by 18 months, but as you can see, she really isn't 'little' in any way shape or form (and I mean that in the Best possibly way FYI LOL).

So a big Happy, Happy Birthday shout out goes to my sister on her very big day!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish some special Happy Birthday wishes to those who share a birthday with my sister, one of which is Lorie's husband Bill of The Shewbridges of Celebration FL :)

Hopefully you guys have one amazing day filled with love, fun and happiness!

Love and Energies.
Kayla

P.s. If you happen to have a birthday soon, let me know when so I can come and bestow my Happy Birthday wishes upon you!
