Slapdash Sunday(1/31)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

***********************************************************************
I won my second instant win giveaway!!

This is so exciting because I play at least 15 to 20 instant wins each day(give or take)-Honestly, I never expect to win anything because I usually just do it for the entries to whatever bigger contest/giveaway/sweepstakes is going on...You know, the 'You didn't win today, but you are entered for *Insert Prize Here*.'

My winning is extremely delicious looking too ;-)

I have a question-Is Google Friend Connect different from actually following a blog?

The reason I ask is because I follow A LOT of blogs, but when I go onto the ones that I follow, its says I'm not following via G.F.C. Some of these I distinctly remember hitting follow, too!

I'm confused O.o

If you all remember, I went and saw Avatar about a month back and wrote a review on the movie(Viewable Here)-Well, I went and saw it in 3D yesterday with the family!

I was extremely excited, and then the movie started.

Not only did I learn that 3D anything makes my head hurt and me sick to my stomach, I realized that I really did not like Avatar in 3D. I felt you were focused too much on the minute details of the movie instead of the movie's plot itself.

Not my cup of tea in other words.

Health Update Thursday(1/28)

Okay, seriously-This new stuff that I started on Monday is making me So. Damn. TIRED! And before you ask, no, it's not the go-to-sleep-early-and-sleep-forever tired, it's more like the I-don't-want-to-do-anything-and-even-if-I-did-I-couldn't-do-it-anyway tired.

Trust me, I'd rather it be the first kind.

I guess it could be worse, though-I could be stuck in bed with mind boggling pain, so it's definitely a step up!

There really isn't much to update you guys on-Started the new stuff. Makes me really tired. Do stuff until I get too fatigued(which is usually pretty quickly).

Sorry it's nothing too terribly exciting! Hope you all have a fantastic Thursday ^.^

Love and Energies.
Kayla

**Update**

I just talked to my M.I. and she told me that I will feel extremely fatigued by this new stuff, but the more I continue to take it, the less fatigued I will feel.

Fingers crossed!

**Update Update**

Sorry guys, I think this is the only post your going to get out of me for this Thursday-I woke up EXTREMELY late and I don't feel good so I'm going to skip posting for today.

Badgertastic!

*WARNING*

This video is extremely hilarious-May result in stomach cramps, involuntary tears or loss of breath from excessive laughter.

Seriously, Adam is my new favorite person-Ever since my mum told me about the interview on television the other night, I did a little research, found his website, Sleep Talkin' Man and have read through all of what he has uttered in unconsciousness while nearly falling over and hyperventilating from laughing so hard!

A few of my favorites.

3. "I can't control the kittens! Too many whiskers....too many whiskers."

2. "Sigh of a ninja."

And my number one favorite:

1. "My badger is going to unleash hell on your ass...BADGERTASTIC!"

Adam has become such a phenomenon, both him and his wife have taken to selling merchandise with his sleep-talking phrases on them! I swear, when I get the opportunity, I'm gettin' me a t-shirt :)

The funniest thing about this whole thing is it seems Adam has two personalities: One waking and one sleeping-Some of the stuff that he says in his sleep, he doesn't even know in his waking life! He's uttered distinct American insults and referenced a few things that he has NO idea what they are or what they even mean. Just goes to show you that we are different people when we sleep...

If Adam or Karen read this post, I just want to say a huge thank you to both of them for giving myself, as well as, MANY other people such a wonderful start to our days-Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I do is log onto their site, SleepTalkinMan.Blogspot.com, and see what Adam's night consisted of.

Hopefully my readers will enjoy Adam and his ramblings as much as I have!

Love and Energies.

It's a Baby Girl!

Today, I was awoken by my door being thrust open and my mum coming in and saying in a sing-songy voice, 'Iiiiiiiit's-a-Giiiiiiiiirl....!'

I immediately flew out of bed and started doing a Lymie happy dance(not quite a walk and not quite a dance-We'll settle upon a joyous shuffle LOL).

Who's baby girl you might ask?

Well, if you had read This Post from my up north vacation, you would know it was my Cousin's wife, whom was extremely pregnant when we saw her not more then a week or two ago!

~*!*~Congratulations Bergman family and welcome to the world little Allison LeeAnn~*!*~

Note: Shopping trips and random baby-related writings may proceed this post in the near future.

Smartasses Rejoice!

My mum and I love when Wednesday rolls around because it gives us time to spend together watching what else, but the comedy block on abc. One of our favorite shows is Modern Family and this week's episode had us in hysterical tears-Especially this particular scene...

Even though this whole scene is hilarious, keep an eye out for what Mitchell says at 1:00.

God, if the universe gave me that chance just once in my lifetime, I could die an EXTREMELY happy smartass ;-)

January Photography Contest Entry

This is my entry for the An Island Life's January Photography Contest:

For January's Photography Contest, we were supposed to capture what the New Year meant to us and I was pretty much stumped until yesterday afternoon when I looked outside my window and happened to catch a squirrel digging for long ago stashed items in the melting snow-After a minute or so of digging, the little guy stood up, looked around and dashed away. Right then is when it truly hit me that New Year for me was coming out of our Winter 'hibernation' of sorts like this lone squirrel and looking for a new beginning. Yes, we have a recollection of last years hidden items and stored memories strewn about, but it's better to leave those items in our subconscious and move onto bigger and better things :)

{Sorry about the quality of the picture-Either my camera isn't as good as it used to be or the little guy kept moving! Lol}

Mailbox Monday(1/25)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

Early Monday morning, I awoke to a package from Amenity.com-I had to think about it for a second cause I didn't remember what it was! Lol

Then, it dawned on me: My Organic Zipper Bags I won from Sweet Greens!

All I can say is How. Gorgeous!!
(now I just need to find stuff to put in them).

Another win from Valerie of Sweeps4Bloggers!!

This time, it was a package that myself and my family all could love and use-FOOD!

Thanks to Pamela'sProducts.com, (whom we are very familiar with), I got a package consisting of Paula's Cake Mix, Chocolate Brownie Mix, and Chunky Chocolate Chip Cookies.

The best part is I can actually eat these because they are gluten and wheat free :D

I'm very excited to be given the opportunity to review not one, but two amazing books! I hope to be able to finish them soon so I can share with all ya'll :D

Lymie brain go awaaaaaaay!

What did you get in the mail this week?

Thank you to all my loyal readers, old and new alike, for being patient with me! I know it's been nearly a week since you've seen something new on The Element, but hopefully this week will be a good one for me-Yes, I'm still fighting whatever is causing my 'setback,' but I have spoken with my M.I. and she has given me some pretty sound advice-It's all uphill from here :)

Vacation from my Vacation

So, now I kind of know why it's been almost 2 years since we have traveled up north for a weekend vacation...

The car trip kills.

Although we all generally had a good time, it wasn't the ideal vacation I had in mind when packing to go up-I had envisioned a weekend of relaxation, family and maybe a little ice fishing if I was so lucky...I only got 1 out of the 3.

As soon as we got up there and unpacked, I got sick; And before you ask, not cold or flu sick, but Lymie sick. My whole body was wracked with pain, I had issues walking, my head hurt-Shall I go on?

My visions of catching Lucy(the fish that got away) were dashed since I couldn't go down the steep hill to get to the lake everyone was fishing on. There were snow mobiles, but even if I could get ready and be driven down to the lake, my pain was to immense to even consider it.

Despite everything, It was nice to visit with family we haven't seen in awhile-Especially our little 3 year old cousin(who was ADORABLE) and his mum who is Very pregnant and is due on the 25th of January.

Sigh.

Now that I'm back home, I need a vacation to get over my vacation >.<

I think I'm going to take a few days off to catch up on my emails and posts-Oh, and of course my health! I'm starting something new in my treatment and it's expected to set me back so we'll see how that goes.

I'll be around so I won't be totally unreachable!

Slapdash Sunday(1/17)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

***********************************************************************

A big thanks to everyone who gave me input last Slapdash Sunday-It's invaluable for me to know what you guys think! This blog isn't just for me, it's for my readers, too.

I decided I love my music on my blog, but autoplay was causing too much problems for my readers, so now when you come on my site, if you actually WANT to listen to the music, you have to go down to the bottom and turn it on manually.

If you haven't already, please take a look at my post from Thursday, The World is a Little Dimmer Today, and pay your respect to Karissa of Prissy Green.

Depression is something that needs to be brought into the light.

Vacation, All I Ever Wanted....

Vacation HAD to get away :D

This is correct, Kayla and her fam are going on vaca! Well, our definition of vacation, anyway-We are headed up north to my Aunt and Uncle's cabin in Northern Wisconsin!!

Man, looking back, we haven't been up to the Northwoods in over a year(THAT'S hard to believe since we practically lived up there in the past). I'm just so glad that we get to see the family and I can breath that fresh, crisp Northwoods air.

Nothing more therapeutic!

Anyway, I have posts pre-written and waiting to be published, so you all will have plenty of entertainment from me even though I will essentially be gone(who knows though, I may throw in a quick update once in awhile).

We'll only be gone for the weekend, but I'm planning on mooching those 3 days for everything they're worth! LOL

Have a wonderful weekend all.

Love and Energies.

The World is a Little Dimmer Today

In the place of this week's Health Update Thursday, I would like to say a few words about a beautiful soul that was lost yesterday-I'm not sure if many of you knew Karissa of Prissy Green, but yesterday, she left this world by taking her own life.

I by no means knew Karissa VERY well, but I did subscribe and follow her blog and I immensely enjoyed what she had to say when it came to living naturally-Unfortunately, I haven't visited her site in awhile, so the guilt reared it's ugly head once I heard. 'I could have done something if I visited her more often' has been echoing in my head since yesterday, but the ultimate truth of the matter is no, I couldn't have...

Suicide is very close to me, so once I heard what happened, it felt like someone slapped me across the face while simultaneously punching me in the stomach; If you view Trisha of MomDot's One Final Word Post(beautifully done, Trisha), you will see a picture of Karissa and it's just so hard to believe this beautiful, vibrant young(she was only 31 years old) woman would take her own life.

Depression is a tricky thing like that, though-The most happy people in the world could secretly be suffering from massive depression and you wouldn't even know it. In her last act, Karissa makes this point crystal clear: If you or someone you suspect is suffering from depression, seek help! Even though I'm one of those people who try not to 'inconvenience' people with my problems, I'm SO glad that I got help at the time.

I personally believe that Karissa's passing means she was done in this life and has a bigger, better purpose in another. Wherever she is, my heart and soul wish she found the peace that she lacked when she was here.

To her family and friends, my heart goes out to each and every one of you in this difficult time-A little bit of sunshine was lost yesterday.

Sherlock Holmes {Movie Review}

Synopsis from IMDB.com:

"After finally catching serial killer and occult "sorcerer" Lord Blackwood(Mark Strong), legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes(Robert Downey Jr.) and his assistant, Dr. Watson(Jude Law) can close yet another successful case. But when Blackwood mysteriously returns from the grave and resumes his killing spree, Holmes must take up the hunt once again. Contending with his partner's new fiancée and the dimwitted head of Scotland Yard, the dauntless detective must unravel the clues that will lead him into a twisted web of murder, deceit, and black magic - and the deadly embrace of temptress Irene Adler(Rachel McAdams)."

My Thoughts:

I'm a fan of Sherlock Holmes(the books and old school movies/t.v. shows), so I thought I would give this movie a go and see what it was all about-It had some kick ass previews, a very strong cast of actors, and not to mention it's been hyped up all over t.v. the past few weeks before it's release!

The thing of it is, when I was watching the movie itself, I really wasn't impressed. It had a good story line(I'm always up for a good mystery!), some really interesting deductive parts(my favorite out of the whole film), and some okay CGI, but it really didn't W.O.W me.

I tried figuring what it was after I got out of the movie and it took me quite a while until it dawned on me: The movie didn't impress me because it didn't follow the traditional Sherlock Holmes image! This movie turned Sherlock (and Watson for that matter) into more of a tough-guy-smart-ass-street-fighter type and that isn't my remembrance of them.

Of course when I told that to my sister and her boyfriend I wasn't impressed, they said I just 'didn't get it.' Yeah, that's it-I've only been reading and watching Sherlock Holmes since I was like 12 *Rolls Eyes*

Anyway, I would give the film a solid C-

**This is an opinion solely based on my thoughts and opinions of the movie in question and no one else's. I was not influenced one way or another to write the subject matter in this review, so if you don't like it or don't agree with it, that is your choice and I fully respect it so please extend me the same curtsy**

What's Your Passion?

You guys know how much I love, love, LOVE owls-They are not only my favorite animal, they are also first up on my spiritual totem which is pretty darn special!

What I'm not sure if you guys know is they are the ones who picked ME. That is correct, they chose me and let me know in a very noticeable way they they are looking out for me(hence why they are at the top of my totem).

How you ask? Well kinda like this...

Owls will pop up EVERYWHERE in the most unexpected places; One day, anywhere I'll turn, there will be some sort of owl, whether it be on an internet ad, a figurine at a local antique store, on a t.v. commercial or even in real life(I've heard an owl outside my window in the wee hours of the morning before)! It sort of freaked me out in the beginning, but now I've accepted it for what it really is: Protection and guidance.

So imagine my complete surprise, excitement, and pure awe when I opened up an email from CafePress.com entitled 'What's Your Passion?' and found this...

"Find products that express your passion"

Now if this isn't my Owls telling me something, I don't know what is!
Okay guys, I get it-Follow my passions!

What is WRONG with This!?

Have any of you seen this little gem of a commercial on television lately(and I say 'gem' in a completely sarcastic tone dripping with disdain and a hint of disgust FYI)...

Okay, Seriously!?

SERIOUSLY!?

I swear to god, I know some people are, shall I say 'challenged,' when it comes to eating healthy and knowing the difference between crap and real, edible food, and some people can't help the fact that they have to eat out once in awhile(that's a little more understandable), but this is taking things way too far.

The first time I saw this commercial, I was LIVID. I'm not sure what pisses me off more: The fact that these people are putting this garbage on television, or the fact that people actually believe it!

'I knew I had to be realistic with myself-I didn't want to cut out my fast food...'

Honestly, if that's how Americans feel about eating today, it's no wonder most of the country is walking around obese and riddled with disease.

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

I Got My Soup!

If your not aware of what I am referring to, I won a couple of cans of Amy's Organic Soup and a beautiful upcycled bag from Amy's as well from who other then my best giveaway buddy, Valerie of Sweeps4Bloggers.

Seriously, you would think it was Christmas again when it came! How can someone be excited about soup, you may ask?

I'm a woman of simple pleasures :)

Thanks to my friend Melissa over at Outnumbered 3 to 1 and Sleepyheads.com, I got brand-spankin-new Pajamas that I'm head over heels for!!

To tell you the truth, that was a completely surprising win!!
(of course I'm not complaining what so ever).

We FINALLY got that Martha Steward Basket from 1-800-Baskets.com that I won from The Mommy Files a couple of weeks ago-I can tell you, from the time I told her to the time we got it, my mum was so impatient! LOL

At the end of each day, it was, 'My basket didn't come...*Insert Sad Face Here*'

Now she can be happy with her belated Christmas present!

I don't know if you know me, but I have a soft spot for office supplies, so when I learned from Jennifer over at J. Leigh Designz that I won a set of notebooks from Carolina Pads, I was one happy paper-lovin' lady :D

I would have taken a 'real life' picture, but my sister and mother snagged their notebooks before I could. LOL

For Christmas this year, I got my mum a subscription to the magazine Real Simple(which she so subtly hinted at when we were on Amazon one day-"Kayla, I want that." LOL).

It actually came on Saturday and personally, I think it's a gift that keeps on giving because I'm interested in reading it too :)

So Merry Christmas to both of us!!

What did you get in the mail this week?

Slapdash Sunday(1/10)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

***********************************************************************

Does anyone know of a good system I can organize my product reviews? If you check Here, you will see that the set up is all weird, but I can't for the life of me, figure out a system that works!

If you can come up with something, I would be so grateful :)

I've had a couple people tell me that my music is too loud when they come to my site, so I'm either going to take it down, or put it to were you have to go down to hit play yourself.

Feedback anyone?

Advice Anyone?

Since I am feeling better these days(more or less anyway), I've been thinking about the future-And there is A LOT to think about!

  • College
  • Travel
  • Job
  • Money
  • Life in general

This year I'm planning on going back to college(whether it's in another state or the local community college is still unknown), maybe traveling to visit some of my Lymie friends, getting a job so I can actually afford to GO to college....

And so on and so forth.

So it only makes sense that, since I'm starting a 'new life' so to speak, I should shed some layers and look into getting a new look for a new me?

All this fancy, future talk basically means I'm looking into haircut possibilities and I'm in dire need of your guy's help! I want to go dramatic-Nothing I've ever done before.

Short is something I've never done before(or have EVER thought of doing). I've been through many haircut websites and Google images and came up with one that I like.

Whatcha think!?

Now, I'm no beautician so I have no idea if I'm making a fabulous choice or the worst decision of my life(my sister would argue the latter)...Help anyone!?

Featured Blogger Friday(1/8)-J. Leigh Designz

How can it be Friday again!? Seriously, it seems like my time is just FLYING by these days-But the good thing is since it's Friday, we get to see another Featured Blogger!

So, please play nice with my friend Jennifer of J. Leigh Designz :)

You never know what your going to find on her blog which is what I love about it-And not only that, Jennifer is such a great person; You can just feel the positive vibes when you enter her site.

Enjoy!

Q. What’s your name and blog? Wh
at other information would you like to share?

My Name is Jenne (like Jen) I go by Jennifer in the written world as it always gets me Jeanne or Jenny, neither of which I respond too LOL! My blog is called J. Leigh Designz. I live in Massachusetts. I married my high school love. We started dating when I was 13. We have 2 boys. Johnny just turned 9 and Gavin is 3. I want one more, but sadly it hasn't been easy. After having 2 unplanned pregnancies I thought PLANNING a baby would be a cinch. A year later and in fertility treatments we are still a no go.

Q. Why did you choose that name for your blog?

I chose J. Leigh Designz because of my Etsy Store that has been around. http://www.etsy.com/shop/jleighdesignz
I originally had J. Leigh Creations but changed it to J. Leigh Designz as my initials are JLD and I liked it more. If you go back to my original blog posts
you'll see they are all paper products as this blog was supposed to showcase my scrapbooking. The blog grew and my scrapbooking now sits in a dusty room that hardily ever gets any attention LOL!

Q. Why did you start blogging?

To get more traffic and attention to my Etsy Store. I didn't like how boring I was and played around to try and interest people. Somehow last spring I dipped into reviews and I've been doing it since!

Q. What kind of stuff do you cover with your blog? Is there a specific genre you write about or is the sky the limit?

I don't have any certain genre. I am more a mommy blogger though. I love participating in weekly meme's like Aloha Friday & Wordless Wednesday. I always have linky's so if you'd like to link up stop on by :)

Q. What is one must read post that you have written {Include Link}?

I don't think I can list just one

Hmm...
To best know me I can give you three:

My best recipe I'm known for - Mac 'n' Cheese
http://www.jleighdesignz.com/2008/12/yummy-mac-cheese.html

My lovely addiction to themed children's rooms. See Gavin's Room here:
http://www.jleighdesignz.com/2009/05/olive-kids-toddler-kids-bedding-for.html

My most personal post I've ever written-
The day my house burnt down:
http://www.jleighdesignz.com/2009/01/day-my-house-burnt-down.html

Q. Name one thing you love about your blogging job.

I {love} the people I have met as a result from it. I have met so many people and I have been able to have many experience I never would have had if not for J. Leigh Designz. I got to cook in the Betty Crocker Kitchens (http://www.jleighdesignz.com/2009/09/table-talk-day-two-betty-crocker.html)! I never would have thought I'd get to do that! I love not only the relationships I've made with my readers, but with other bloggers and companies.I love working with Dee (http://www.twoofakindworkingonafullhouse.com/) as we talk everyday. We talk about so much more then blogging. I love my sponsors. Recently many of my sponsors reached out to a family that was devastated and broken from fire. It warmed my heart to be able to do something like that.

Q. Name one thing you’re not quite fond of about your blogging job.

3 am. I see it often. I work as a Birthday Party Coordinator and After School Coordinator by day for Mad Science. So I often find its the late hours I get to blog my posts for the next day.

Q. What’s one random fact about you?

I have 2 different colored eyes. Born that way. My son would tell you its that I can touch my nose with my tongue haha!

We Love Colors *Review*

I'm not a fashionable person and if you don't believe me, just ask my sister to confirm that sad fact; She'll have no problem telling you that I couldn't fashionably dress myself out of a paper bag!

My idea of fashion is jeans and a t-shirt, which has more or less worked for me(much to my sister's dismay)-It has worked for me, that is, until I recently found the holy grail of fashion...

Leggings.

Seriously, where have they been all my life!? You can do ANYTHING with a good pair of leggings from dressing them up fancy to dressing them down to even sleeping in the things if you really wanted to!

When I was contacted to do a review for the company We Love Colors, I was skeptical to say the least-I'm a curvy girl, so I didn't know how these leggings would look on my body. Would they make me and my legs look spectacular or would they chunk me out more then I already am?

Before I tell you that outcome(Ooooh, suspenseful!), let me first give you a little background information on the company We Love Colors:

If you are looking for T.H.E perfect accessory to go with any outfit, look no further then We Love Colors; They have a wide variety of colored tights, fishnets, or other hosiery in sizes from kids all the way up to those hard to find plus sizes. Not only do they have those different hosiery products, you can also find leotards, unitards and other dancewear for that dancer in your life! If you haven't already, go over and check them out-You can also follow the latest products, deals and other information on their Facebook Fan Page and Twitter Account, as well as their ever fascinating Blog.

While looking through the immense variety of merchandise on their site, I finally settled upon the Solid Color Maroon Leggings, because I'm one of those people who would rather have a pair of leggings that can go with many different outfits instead of something that can only be worn by itself(although I was very tempted to go with one of their more adventurous pieces of merchandise).

My Outcome: I'm thrilled to tell you I looked absolutely fabulous when I put them on(and if your curious, I'm usually quite modest when it comes to my looks)! More importantly then looking good, they are so comfortable-I ended up just wearing them around the house one day while I bummed around.

Let me tell you this has opened so many fashionable doors for me!! Now when I go out shopping to buy clothing or accessories, I can keep in mind that I have a gorgeous pair of leggings at home to match whatever I get!!

Thank you We Love Colors for broadening my clothing horizons(I'm sure my sister thanks you as well)-Now, I just need a good party to go to and I'm all set ;-)

Note: Please excuse my pictures-I wish I could have done my hair and makeup, but despite my seemingly healthy demeanor, I'm was tired and had no energy.

I received the solid color maroon leggings from We Love Colors so that I could accurately write an honest review of the company’s products and it‘s services-All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are mine and mine alone.
