The Lonely Hearts Club *Book Review*

The Lonely Hearts Club

by Elizabeth Eulberg
Point
December 2009

Book Summery {from inside jacket}:

"Penny is sick of boys and sick of dating, so she vows: No more. She's had one too many bad dates, and has been hurt by one too many bad boys.

It's a personal choice...and soon everybody wants to know about it. It seems that Penny's not the only one who's tired of the way girls change themselves (most of the time for the worse) in order to get their guys...or the way their guys don't really care.

Girls are thronging to The Lonely Hearts Club, and Penny finds herself near legendary for her nondating ways-which is too bad, since the leader of The Lonely Hearts Club has found a certain boy she can't help but like..."

My Thoughts:

For a girl who thrives off of action, adventure and thriller books (not to mention a good serial killer read now and again), it's nice to take a step back from those fast-paced, dangerous worlds and pick up something 'refreshing' and 'light', which are two words that immediately come to mind when thinking of this book. It's one of those books that you can just read without analyzing or trying to figure anything out; You just read and enjoy (exactly what I did until 4:00 am when I finished the darn thing LOL).

Getting into the story a little bit, I personally think it's brilliant; If only I had thought of such a club when I was in high school! Although, I don't think it would have turned out HALF as good as Penny's group ;)

The thing that really sets this book apart from others like it, is how much compassion and ongoing support the actual story and characters contain-This is really what a teenage girl's life SHOULD be.

All in all, I would highly recommend this book for any person or age group for a relaxing and 'feel good' read, but I would also recommend it a little more highly towards girls just starting out their teenage years-I have a sneaking feeling that this story will help a few of them along on that rough road ^.^
