Featured Blogger Friday(3/5)-Badger Mom

I'm so happy to bring to you this featured blogger today, Elementians (new word-deciding whether it works or not...)!!

Seriously, this absolutely wonderful woman and I have so much in common, it's a little scary O.o

From our hobbies to our outlook on life to even our likes and dislikes-Every time I hear or read something knew about her, I'm even more amazed.

Please welcome Jenine of Badger Mom!!

Q. What’s your name and blog? What other information would you like to share?

My blog is Badger Mom. It's a front for an underground Illuminati for a very small island in the far east which I am sworn to secrecy to not name. In actuality, I do reviews and giveaways and I tend to have candid posts regarding parenting, kids, family and friends, homeschooling, and life in general. My hope is to inspire open discussion on those topics and anything else that happens to make it past my muddled thoughts and into my blog pages. I also participate in a bunch of memes because they let folks know just a little bit more about me plus they tend to be fun and entertaining. Well they entertain me at least and sometimes that's all that counts, right? I try to make my blog an extension of myself, and as I become more comfortable writing in a public forum, I hope that more freedom and fluidity, and perhaps some otherwise taboo topics, will manifest in my posts.

Q. Why did you choose that name for your blog?

I originally chose the name Badger Momma because my husband and I gave both of our young girls totemic animal symbols before birth and my youngest girl's totem is a badger. So although MY totem animal might not be a badger, in essence, I would be a badger mother. No, no... not a 'mutha badger', a badger mother. My blog has recently morphed into Badger Mom as my youngest daughter has grown a bit and so has my blog. :) Yeah yeah okay, it didn't actually morph - that would be crazy talk - I just physically changed the name. I'm "Mom" these days, not "Momma".

Q. Why did you start blogging?

I originally began blogging back in 2005 on my very first personal blog as a means to communicate with family and friends as we had moved elsewhere and were fairly removed from everyone we knew. Read: Hermits. I needed some sort of creative outlet to avoid going stir crazy while snowed in for six months out of the year. I've created several blogs since and right now, Badger Mom is my most popular and is what takes up most of my blogging time. I intend on continuing to blog for a very long time as it still gives me an outlet and thus, I won't feel the need to run around my neighborhood market wearing nothing but woad and wielding an axe. At least not on a regular basis.

Q. What kind of stuff do you cover with your blog? Is there a specific genre you write about or is the sky the limit?

There's not really a specific genre I follow as so much as the genre of Jenine. That's me. Maybe I should form a cult. Regardless, I haven't put any sort of review and giveaway limitation on my blog, although I do reserve the right if a product or concept is just so whacked out that even I don't really have a hope of liking it. And I like a lot of things! I have a wide range of interests and those are mirrored in the products and services that I review. I'd like to think that my blog is family-friendly although some of my reviews go into the more risque aspect of family life - which while still being 'family life' isn't exactly G rated. But in my opinion, it still makes my blog family-friendly.

I have recently discovered that venting in personal posts may actually be read by the same people in proximity to me that I am venting about - no matter how innocent or brief the comment - so I've imposed a self limitation on certain personal topics on Badger Mom and instead have taken them to an invitation only forum. I'd love it it my bloggy friends would request an invitation from me and join me there. Warning though - I can curse like a sailor and I tell it like it is. So if you have sensitive eyes and temperaments, you might just want to stick to Badger Mom. Obviously, if you know that you fall into the category of personal acquaintance that irritates me to the point of bitching about you in a blog post, then you won't be invited. So don't bother asking. But this doesn't apply to YOU all. I mean, you're all good, right?

Q. What is one must read post that you have written {Include Link}?

Hmmm.... I don't think that I have any "must read" posts. However, I would like for folks that have the warped intention of frequenting my blog on a regular basis to read my Meet Me page. ( I'd love to get to know my readers and likewise have my readers get to know me. I try and keep that page updated. And if they feel like running away screaming after they've read my Meet Me page, then I won't hold it against them.

Q. Name one thing you love about your blogging job.

I love communicating with like-minding people that I discover throughout the internet. I often find that most of the people near me locally, while really nice folks, just don't have the same kind of personality that I have. Which is probably for the best. Therefore, it's great when I find others out there that share my interests and quirks and my twisted sense of humor. I can't tell you how many wonderful people I've met through blogging. I love them all and want to have their bab... Okay well I wouldn't go THAT far but you know what I mean.

Q. Name one thing you’re not quite fond of about your blogging job.

The time in which it takes to blog thoroughly. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I try to be as thorough as I can. Doubt that? You haven't read one of my very wordy reviews. However, it's not only the reviews and giveaways that take time. The day-to-day maintenance of a blog, the posting of comments and replies, staying connected with other social networks like Twitter and Facebook, and keeping up-to-date with all of the posts and articles written by others takes an incredible amount of time. Don't get me wrong - I love it all. I just wish I had more time to do it. Hence my ultimate goal of immortality. I want more time to do everything!

Q. What’s one random fact about you?

Just one? Pshaw! I'm a fiery, petite red-head that likes cool days and warm foot rubs. No? Okay.... ummm... I despise clothes shopping. Don't hate me!

Q. Inspiration comes in many forms for different people. What inspires you?

My family and friends mostly. At least when it comes to blogging. The great thing about being inspired by the people closest to you is the abundance of material that can be used against them... errr.... used to make great blog posts. Although I do take a lot of inspiration from the news, advertisements, and ridiculous things that happen to me whenever I'm out and about. Chaos and destruction seem to follow me everywhere. Okay, maybe just the chaos part.

Q. Where else can we find you(Personal Website, Etsy Shop, Twitter, Facebook, Etc.)?

You mean you want to stalk me? Excellent!

You can find me on Twitter as: and

You can also find me on Facebook as: and

If you want to REALLY get to know me, then tune in to Monday Mingles (a regular vlog hosted by Jennifer over at every Monday) and check out my vlogs. Posts are great, but they ARE just words. If you really want to get a feel for a blogger, then definitely check them out in 'person'.

I do have an Etsy shop at however, I've taken it on 'vacation' as I'm not quite sure which direction I'm going to take it in the future. But come heart me anyway and and you'll have my undying gratitude. Whatever that's worth to you. :)
