Happy Cinco de Mayo!

While not to be confused with the Mexican Independence day that falls on September 16, Cinco De Mayo is a day of great importance to the Mexican and Chicano communities because it marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla(Batalla de Puebla).
Although the Mexican Army was eventually defeated, everything about the day came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism.

The holiday of Cinco de Mayo is primarily a regional holiday in Mexico. There is some limited recognition of the holiday in other parts of the country. However, in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo has a whole different significance the it does in the United States. In ways, there it's sort of like our 4th of July.

In the United States, we don't celebrate it because of the Mexican's victorious battle the holiday was founded upon, but of the Mexican culture as a whole. No matter what decent we may come from, we all stop and celebrate Cinco de Mayo because it recognizes one individual culture and their beliefs.

Granted, it has become over commercialized like a lot of the other holidays in the U.S., but the principle of the whole thing is still there and I think that is whats most important!

Happy Cinco de Mayo Everyone!

R.I.P Bea 'Dorthy' Arther.

Above clip is one of my favorite skits from The Golden Girls

One week ago at the age of 86, Beatrice Arther passed away peacefully in her Los Angeles home surrounded by family and friends. Known for her outstanding and witty performances in the hit tv sitcomes 'Maude' and 'The Golden Girls,' I know I'm not alone in saying that this is a terrible loss for us all.

I'm a HUGE Golden Girls fan and I stay up every night to watch the 3 episodes on tv that air from 11:00 pm to 12:30 pm here in Illinois(I'm an insomniac, what do you expect? Lol). Ironically, last Monday I was supposed to have a GG marathon with a close friend who has recently aquired all 7 seasons on DVD.

That morning last Saturday, my mother informed me that one of my favorite people had died-Knowing her, I thought, "Oh boy, who could it be?" She usually is quite the jokester, but she told me it was Bea and I was so sad! Watching Golden Girls knowing Estelle had past away was quite sad in and of itself, but now knowing that Estelle AND Bea are gone!?

Like I said, It's a great loss and we will all miss her dearly!

Rest In Peace Bea 'Dorthy' Arther

April Showers Bring May Flowers.

April showers bring may flowers, but what do may flowers bring?

I have never actually heard the whole poem before! That is all I have ever known of it. So for the 1st of May, I decided to actually look it up so I know the rest-Lol-

Here you go for those who are like me and didn't know the whole thing. And for those of you who actually knew the poem, kudos to you!

April Showers

April showers bring May flowers,
That is what they say.
But if all the showers turned to flowers,
We’d have quite a colourful day!

There’d be bluebells and cockleshells,
Tulips red and green,
Daffodils and Chinese squill,
The brightest you’ve ever seen.

You’d see tiger lilies and water lilies,
Carnations pink and blue,
Forget-me-not and small sundrop
Glistening with the dew.

We’d have fireweed and milkweed
And many more different flowers.
Mexican star and shooting star,
Falling in the showers.

And if all the showers turned to flowers
On that rainy April day,
Would all the flowers turn to showers
In the sunny month of May?

What in the World is an Elevator Pitch?

So here is an interesting and very helpful promotion tip that I got when surfing the blogging world. Thanks in part to Valerie over at Additions Style for giving me the idea to blog about!

An Elevator Pitch. Heard of it? For those of you who haven't, I shall explain it, but for those of you who have, put it into practice yet?

An elevator pitch(defined by wikipedia) is an overview of an idea for a product, service or project. It gets it's name because the pitch should reflect the time it takes you to ride the elevator to your destination. For example, a good 30 seconds maximum and 100 to 150 words.

Let's say you get on the elevator to go to lunch and who steps in beside you but the one person that you have wanted to talk to about your newest idea! Well think of the elevator pitch like a first impression, but for your idea.

Some question an effective pitch must answer:

*What your product, idea, or project is.

*What will it do for the potential buyer, sponsor, or investor. Like, what are the benefits?

*Who the heck are you and why you will be successful.

Your pitch needs to capture a person or investor's attention and make things easily understandable.

When you have your pitch, I suggest writing it down and rehearsing it over and over until you could say it in your sleep. You never know when someone will be interested! And when they are, you will be prepared to wow them :D

Girlies Only--I Despise Shaving My Legs...

I don't know about anyone else out there, but I seriously DESPISE shaving my legs. Of course when your a pre-teen, you cannot wait to start 'teenager' things like dating, driving, and shaving your legs(at least that was me).

I would take it all back on the last one! My mum always said, "Once you start, you can't stop you know." And of course, I didn't listen. But you have to start sooner or later and now that I'm 19, I wish I could go back and wait just that little bit longer.

Oh well! No need to dwell on the past.

Melissa over at ShimmerMeBlue did a review for an awesome looking shaver from Epilady. Here is a little information from their website:

WHY USE AN EPILATOR?

There are many reasons why women use epilators to remove unwanted body hair. From our customer feedback, here are the top five:

• Results last for up to 4 weeks. Epilating takes about 15-20 minutes per leg, but is only done once a month.

• Hair grows back more slowly, and diminishes over time.

• New hairs grow back softer and lighter – “like a new blade of grass”.

• Epilating is much cheaper that waxing in a spa, much cleaner than waxing at home, and leaves no nicks and cuts like shaving.

• “I will never shave again!” has become the mantra of all veteran Epilady users. American women shave their legs 11 times a month, on average, with older women shaving more frequently than younger women. These ladies have had enough! They hate to shave, as easy and as fast as that may be, and absolutely hate the day-after stubble. Solution – they epilate, with a passion.

And here is the most amazing thing: Melissa is doing a giveaway for one of these babies!!!!! Oh boy, when I saw that, I entered that giveaway so fast I think I might have been the first person to sign up-Lol-

To enter the giveaway, here is the link:

Make sure you check it out and the Epilady website for a whole bunch more awesome items.

Love and Energies.

P.s. Good Luck!! ^.^
