Happy Halloween Everyone!

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday-Why you ask? Well, there isn't just one reason that I love the holiday. Here are a few reasons:

  • Halloween is based of a Pagan solstice called Samhain, which celebrates the dead and departed.
  • This is the only holiday you can go around begging for candy from other people.
  • The air-It's crisper and cleaner in the Fall.
  • You can dress up to be anything you damn well please!
  • I love seeing the little kids in their costumes >.<
Unfortunately, the past few years I haven't been able to celebrate Halloween as much as I would like because of health reasons. This year is definitely better, but It looks like another sit-home-and-hand-out-candy years.

And I'm fine with that(or so I keep telling myself). There is always next year!

Hopefully you all have an amazing and safe Halloween! For your enjoyment, here are some pictures of Halloween past....

My past that is!

Featured Blogger Friday(10/30)-Just Jules

TGIF everyone! I know when it hits Friday, every one's mind wanders to the weekend-But before your mind wanders too much, let's greet our featured blogger for this Friday's Post!

Welcome Julie of Just Jules!

Julie's blog is one of my favorites(I even have it bookmarked in my 'Daily Blog Round' folder)-I always love to see what she has to say this day.

Hopefully, you all will enjoy her as much as I do!

Q. What’s your name and blog? What other information would you like to share?

My blog is called 'Just Jules'. I started blogging right before Christmas '08, I started blogging as my best friends Christmas present. I would always rant on her on the phone and she kept saying I should write this down. She said it was all she wanted for Christmas. How could I refuse.

Q. Why did you choose that name for your blog?

My nickname is Jules. and sometimes being "just" you is enough. So, I am Just Jules.

Q. Why did you start blogging?

See first question.

Q. What kind of stuff do you cover with your blog? Is there a specific genre you write about or is the sky the limit?

I write very randomly. Something that happened during the day. Something that bothers me. Observations in my world. Events that I find normal and mundane I have come to realize others are interested in - so I post a lot of things like that. Anything that floats to the surface of my brain. Really.

Q. Name one thing you love about your blogging job.

It serves as a creative outlet and give me something to think about. Also, it has given me the opportunity to notice things in my life. Small pieces of information stand out because I think about writing a post about them, or I imagine something as a photo - I notice small beauty around me now.

Q. Name one thing your not quite fond of about your blogging job.

The feeling that I have to blog everyday.

Q. What’s one random fact about you?

Hmmmmm, I refuse to get the flu shot.
(virtual high five from Kayla)

I wear a size 8 shoe, and have been looking for a pair of black heels to go with my dress I am bringing on my trip and can't find any that fit.

Q. Inspiration comes in many forms for different people. What inspires you?

Everyday life. My kids. Other bloggers.

Q. Where else can we find you(Personal Website, Etsy Shop, Twitter, Facebook, Etc.)?

I am on facebook. Email for my name.

The English Language

I stole this from Annette over at Fairy Blog Mother because of the fact that it's simply AMAZING!

20 reasons why the English language is so hard to learn:

  1. The bandage was wound around the wound.
  2. The farm was used to produce produce.
  3. The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
  4. We must polish the Polish furniture.
  5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.
  6. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
  7. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
  8. A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
  9. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
  10. I did not object to the object.
  11. The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
  12. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
  13. They were too close to the door to close it.
  14. The buck does funny things when the does are present.
  15. A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
  16. To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
  17. The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
  18. Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
  19. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
  20. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham. If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth?

One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?

Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race (which, of course, isn't a race at all). That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

How about when you want to shut down your computer you have to hit start.

Happy Pondering Everyone!

Featured Blogger Friday(10/23)

I really have no idea where I came across Jennifer, but her blog is great! She emits an energy that just makes you want to come back and read more :-)

Of course I have to share her with you all-What kind of person would I be if I didn't!? Lol

So without further adieu, here is Jennifer of Eighty MPH Mom!

Q. What's your name and your blog?
What other information would you like to share?

My name is Jennifer and my blog is Eighty MPH Mom. I also have another blog - a food blog - The Speedy Gourmet.

Q. Why did you choose that name for your blog?

I chose Eighty MPH Mom because I feel like that is how fast I am going most days! I am a SAHM and between carpooling, cooking, cleaning and blogging, my days are pretty full. Most days don't seem to have enough hours in the day. I think most of us are probably 80 MPH Moms!

Q. Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging mostly to have an outlet for different subjects, events in my life and my children, pets, friends, etc. I have found that it is a wonderful way to let my other family and friends know exactly what is going on in our lives. My kids are older now, but I wish blogging was around when they were little - how fun that would have been!

Q. What kind of stuff do you cover with your blog? Is there a specific genre you write about or is the sky the limit?

The sky is definitely the limit on my blog! I participate in meme's, I do product reviews and giveaways, I write about whatever I want...it's a beautiful thing.

Q. Name one thing that you love about your blogging job.

What I love most is that I can be creative. I can share happy or sad news, or write about something that makes me mad. It is my very own to do what I want with and I think that is pretty incredible. I love the friends I have met, and am excited to meet new people too.

Q. Name one thing your not so fond of about your blogging job.

Hmmm - that is a good question. I think when I over commit (just like in real life). Then it feels like more of a job, with deadlines. I am always so eager to post about so many things. I love it when I am caught up and have time to visit other blogs and can just relax and enjoy for a bit.

Q. What's one random fun fact about you?

I am short - really short. Well I am 5'2 - that's short right? LOL

Q. Inspiration comes in many forms for different people. What inspires you?

I am inspired by uplifting stories, and stories that we can all relate to in one form or another. I am inspired when I see the good in people, and amazing things that people do for others - especially for people they have never met in person.

Q. Where else can we find you(Etsy shop, other blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc)?

Zombieland {Movie Review}

Summary:

Before the virus erupted and people were turned into flesh eating maniacs, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) was a regular college student going to school and living life. Now he is a paranoid shut in just trying to survive the best he can. That is until he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a no-nonsense hard ass ready and roaring to shoot up some zombie ass on his quest to find his savior: The Twinkie. Teaming up, they set off on two different journeys figuring two people are better then one until they have to go their separate ways.

In come sisters, Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) who use some pretty hardcore ways to ensure their survival(although, I quite admire their wicked awesome strategies).

All on four on different paths, but going in the same direction, they slowly learn to trust each other. Add a little humor and romance, gory zombie killing, and Bill Murry, we got the makings of a great movie!

My Thoughts:

Despite the fact that this movie is a eat-em'-all-up zombie movie that's rated R, it's one of the more light-hearted zombie movies I've ever seen(if there is such a thing)! I've heard a lot of controversy behind the movie-Most people who saw it either loved it or they hated it, and you can definitely count me on the 'Loved It' side of the debate!!

All in all it was a pretty damn good movie!!

Not only did they have the bloody gore scenes that I love(yeah, yeah, I'm a weird one), but they had some great humor chocked in between the blood and guts-How you can have time for crackin' a joke when your being chased by blood thirsty virus infected beings, I will never know. I think my favorite thing would have to be the little romance thrown in, which usually never happens in these types of movies-It was a pleasant surprise :-)

I can't wait until this movie comes out on DVD!

**This is an opinion solely based on my thoughts and opinions of the movie in question and no one elses. I was not influenced one way or another to write the subject matter in this review, so if you don't like it or don't agree with it, that is your choice and I fully respect it so please extend me the same curtsy**

Serving Others This Holiday Season

We know the economic circumstances these days are less then favorable for all of us-Some more then others and unfortunately, it's not getting any better.

Of course the 'officials' say that the economy is getting better, but I really don't believe it. This day and age, we can't rely on anyone else but ourselves and the kindness of others on occasion, which brings me to the point of this downer of a post! Lol

While going through my blog subscriptions yesterday, I came across a post at Trying to Stay Calm about helping others this season. Listen to what Shauna has to say:

"This year my family and I plan to serve some needy families by surprising them with Christmas gifts left at their door secretly. In order to make this happen we need lots of help! If your family or anyone you know would like to help please let us know. You can use this picture to post about what we are doing on your blog. Please post the Serving Others This Holiday Season button I have on my side bar on your blog so people read all about it. Thank You so very much for all your help with this!"

How awesome is that!? I wanted to help her quest by spreading the word, so if you know anyone in her immediate area in need of some help this holiday season, don't hesitate to contact her! I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated :-)

Health Update Thursday(10/22)

As you all know, I'm having a rough go of it the past few days-The SAD seems to have kicked in (not so full force, so that's good) and combined with the Lyme, it makes it double difficult.

I had a freak out last week and had to just step away from life in general for a bit to reassess things, but since then I've been slowly coming back to civilization. It's just hard because anything large or small can set me off at anytime and then I'm back to being a social pariah.

The funny thing was when I was at my worst, my M.I. called and asked my mum, and I quote, 'What's up with Kayla's emotions!?' Seriously, she really did. I talked to her about it and she explained that this was what happens on the current medicine I was taking and that's a sign that it was working.

Kinda bittersweet, huh?

Anyway, health-wise is a 50/50 flip-One day I will be grand and cleaning like there is no tomorrow and the next day I will be in bed with a migraine and a high pain scale. It all just depends(on what, I couldn't tell you cause there is so many contributing factors).

The M.I. did say that by January I'll be able to attend the local community college part time so I'm cautiously optimistic about that-I refuse to be happy until it ACTUALLY HAPPENS because I know better.

That's about it for the update! Thanks for checking up on me :-)

Love and Energies.

Random Emotional Post {Read Please}

I cannot being to tell you how much I love my friends both Lymie and non-Lymie alike-As you all know, I've been going through a particularly rough patch at this point in time(which usually happens around this time each year) and I had to step away for a little while while I flipped out reassessed my current situation.

I shut off my phone completely, stopped responding to emails, messages, and chat requests and wrote a message on Facebook titled 'It's that time again,' explaining the what's-what. Here is the message for those who would like to read it:

"So, it's that time of year again and I ain't talking about Halloweenl. I'm talking THAT time of year again and if your a friend or family member of mine who has been with me for the past 6 year or a Lymie friend who's probably going through it too, you know what I'm talking about.

Along with the LD and it's stupid side affects, I'm officially self diagnosing myself with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) because it seems like it's ALWAYS this time of year. That being said, It hit a little earlier then in the past, but this year hasn't been 'the norm' with me JUST starting to walk again the end of August.

Anyway, I wanted to give all of my friends and family a heads up-I'M NOT IGNORING YOU! Okay, in retrospect, I kind of am, but to use the lame excuse, 'it's not you, it's me(which
it actually is).'

I just can't deal with people in my state of physical and emotional health and I really hope you understand-I just need to take care of myself right now.

This is why I'm going to turn off my phone as soon as I have my affairs straight. I may or may not be up to messaging on here, but that is all in due time and on good days.

Thanks for understanding.
"

Well, my wonderful, fantastic, amazing friend Suzy (bless her ever-lovin' heart) sent me a message a few days after my post saying that she sent me a surprise package.

A surprise it was indeed!

If your reading this Suzy Q, thank you so much, again!!!! This put the biggest smile on my face and my mum was equally as grateful to you because she said she hadn't seen me smile in a long time :-)

I just can't intake all the kindness that has been given to me throughout my last 6 years-When I got this package, my heart nearly burst because it was so full of happiness and love! I only hope I can one day make someone's heart feel all those emotions like that.

I don't say it often, but thank you all for supporting me and just being there, whether you be family or friends, loyal or random reader-I appreciate you all more then I can write and just hope one day I can return your kindnesses.

Love and Energies.

Mailbox Monday(10/19)

Mailbox Monday divulges into the inner workings of my mailbox throughout the week. From books to jewelry to free samples to random magazines and letters-You never know what will be in the mail this week...

***********************************************************************

1. Thanks to Brandie over at Free Sample Freak (Become a follower of hers-You won't be sorry, I assure you!), I got an AMAZING freebie in the mail from Mario Badescu who specialize in skin care. All you have to do is take a Small Questionnaire about your skin type, and they do all the rest! They sent me a 7 set sample package of what my personal skin type needs, along with an instruction card on how to apply my freebies(morning routine, night routine, etc), and a booklet on their company and what they offer. It's most definitely worthwhile-Give it a try!

2. I got something weird from FedEx the other day: It was a special copy of the children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The weird thing about it was that I had never ordered and or purchased the thing(as far as I know), and I have never heard of the program that it came with. I DO know that it's a part of Jumpstart, so maybe while surfing my numerous mom blogs, I accidentally requested it?

I guess my little baby cousin will have a new book to read :D

3. More of those damn magazines-Apparently, this is the 'Last One!'

Thank God.

What did you get in the mail this week?

Slapdash Sunday(10/18)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

***********************************************************************

1. As of yesterday, it is 1 month until my 20th birthday! It's extremely difficult to wrap my head around the fact that I'll be TWENTY, no longer classified a 'teenager.'

Although it can't come fast enough! Lol

2. Does anyone know of any good scholarships that are out there? I've been searching the past few days and would definitely appreciate all the help I can get!

3. Any one of my readers located in the Niagara Falls area? I have a coupon voucher for $5.00 to the new Ramano's Macaroni Grill across from the Fallsview Casino and seeing as I'm in Illinois, I probably won't use it anytime soon-Lol-

Just let me know and I'll send it off to you!

Update on Charlie

So as you know, I pulled a real bonehead move the other day, and I wasn't sure of the future of my poor baby, Charlie.

A.K.A. my laptop.

I think since I worked fast, I spared Charlie any SERIOUS damage(at least I'm hoping). However, he does have some issues, but nothing I can't deal with.

I'm still hoping (and begging the computer god) that he will keep working. I really don't know what I would do without him-He is my life.

Anyway, I just thought you all would want to know that I'm still up and working for now and we can get back to our regular scheduled programming...uh, I mean posts! Lol

Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Fruit Snacks {Review and Giveaway}

My Blog Spark has teamed up with Betty Crocker yet again to provide another wonderful review opportunity for us bloggers(and you readers *wink wink*)! Similar to my last Review with Betty Crocker, they have introduced a line of gluten free, fruit-flavored snacks for kids that are both healthy and too darn good if you ask me-Here is some information straight from their website:

"Betty Crocker Fruit-Flavored Snacks are a snack choice you can feel good about - they are made with real fruit and each serving is less than 100 calories! Now every kid can enjoy the simple joy of a fun, great tasting gluten free snack."

I was THRILLED to receive the package via the USPS the other day with the words 'MyBlogSpark' on it because I know right then and there that it's going to be quality! This time, I intercepted it before my dad could mistakenly rip it open with the preconceived notion that it was his(which is an ongoing battle between the two of us). You can see when I opened it I was not disappointed...

In this fun package deemed 'Simple Joys' , there was included:

  • 2 Boxes of Betty Crocker Fruit-Flavored, Gluten Free Snacks
  • A Retro Pick em' Up Sticks Game
  • A Light Up Yo Yo(My personal favorite)
  • A Classic Frisbe
Let me share with you a few secrets:

Secret #1: I have been playing with that yo yo every chance I get-I mean come on...It Lights Up!!

Secret#2: Between the 3 people that live in my household, those snacks were gone within 2 days (tops).

I can express all of those 3 people's opinions in one word: Yummy! They honestly didn't taste any different then the regular fruit snacks you could run out and get right now. I have yet to play with my Frisbe and pick-up sticks, but I'm just waiting for someone who will play with me :-)

I know-I need a life. Lol

There was one thing that I wasn't too thrilled about though: Even though the snacks were gluten free, they weren't high fructose corn syrup or dye free. For me personally, I like to go as organic and natural as I can. However, for a kids lunch or snack time, I have no qualms in saying that these will do the trick-Especially if your kids are gluten sensitive.

Something to Work Towards {New Goal}

I'm by no means an athletic person-Sure, when I was younger and in school, I tried out a few sports just because it was something to do and I was trying to find my 'knack' if you will. Some of the sports I tried:
  1. Soccer-I was 9 and convinced that I I L.O.V.E.D soccer. I was on a team and even though I don't remember a lot, I do remember that particular obsession would last until I realized I couldn't play soccer due to dehydration issues.
  2. Cheerleading-I'm only admitting to that one because I was young and stupid.
  3. Basketball-That was a thing my sister and I both did back in elementary school-What I remember: I scored one basket the whole season(and that's because the other team felt sorry for me).
So as you can see, I've tried being a athletic person and I have failed miserably. Plus it doesn't help that I walk into inanimate objects and trip over my own two feet. Lol

But I think I have discovered something that I'm willing to become an athletic person for despite my uncoordinated, clumsy self-Roller Derby.

I know I've heard of it before now, but the movie Whip It brought the sport to my attention and I started doing a little research. That's when I met Erika of Acrylic and Steel on Etsy(You can view her feature HERE ) and to my surprise, she is a roller derby nut too! When all of these things come together like that, It's a sign(and yes, I do believe in signs).

I ended up finding a documentary on the starting of the sport, Hell on Wheels. It was definitely interesting and entertaining, but it focused a great deal on the democracy of the whole thing rather then the actual sport.

This is something I REALLY want to do-The fact of the matter is, I don't think I'll be able to do it because of my Lyme Disease. I'm not going to lie: Throughout the 6 years I've been sick, this is the first thing that I feel was stolen from me.

But that's not going to stop me. I'll just have to work extra hard to see if my roller derby dream is attainable.

Mailbox Monday(10/12)

2. I personally didn't receive this, but I thought I would share-My grandpa got some sort of holiday 'junk' in the mail(junk=address labels, holiday tags, stickers, etc). I quickly claimed it for myself because...

**drum-roll please**

My grandpa died in 01.'

Yeah. If you wanted to send that to him, you would have to pay one hell of a shipping and handling fee >.<

3. I was stupid and
ordered from one of those severely overpriced check ads you see when you get a million other ads for a creepy-looking doll keepsake or some other piece of crap your never going to use, but I love them sOoOoOoOo much!

I mean, tell me THOSE aren't cute!

What did you get in the mail this week?

Slapdash Sunday(10/11)

Slapdash Sunday is a day for your proverbial week 'leftovers.' Is there something you wanted to say, but just forgot? Is there something you want to write about, but isn't worth a whole page? Do you have a random thought, funny or otherwise that needs to be written down?

That is what Slapdash Sunday is for!

***********************************************************************

1. I hate to say it, but I'm getting a little discouraged-I haven't won a single giveaway ANYWHERE in like a month or two(and it's not for lack of trying)! I wonder if some cosmic power is saying 'None for you,' while giving everyone else prizes...

I guess when it's meant to be, it will be-But it's so damn hard to be patient =/

2. Have you ever had it where you have so much to do here, there and everywhere that when the time actually comes to do it all, you can't?

I have and it sucks.

3. Happy Anniversary to my sister, Krysten, and her boyfriend, Kyle!!

They are celebrating 3 years <33>

Health Update Thursday(10/8)

I never thought I would be the one to say this, but THANK GOD I got my period finally (Sorry for the T.M.I people)!!!!

First let me explain-The two weeks prior to my period is due are pure torture. We found out that my lymph system is the culprit of my paralysis spells, so every time my period is due, my legs either are too painful or too weak (or both) to walk. Besides the legs, everything just goes haywire(more so then usual) and doesn't let up until my period is over.

So that's two weeks + however long my period lasts (which is only about 3 or 4 days). This time however, it was late and I was extremely sick and it just didn't make for a good couple of weeks ='(

Let's just say, I was living off Motrin and Excedrin PM for awhile...

I'm still having some mental issues, but it's definitely better then it was-Still have a phobia about talking on the phone, but It just depends on the day now.

But yes, I just wanted to let you know why I've been M.I.A one day and then full force the next. I'm still not sure how the next few weeks are going to go, but ya'll know that If I'm not here, I'm probably too sick to post (hopefully that won't happen very often).

Love and Energies!

Okay Snow White, Enough Crap!

With all this hubbub(Yes, I did say the word 'hubbub') about the new Diamond Edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs everywhere I go, I got a little sentimental.

I hadn't seen Snow White in years-God, it has to be at least 10 to 12 years since the last time! So I figured 'what the hell' and I found it and watched it just for shits and giggles...

BIG. MISTAKE.

I've never thought about myself as a hardcore feminist until I watched That. Movie.

I wish I could say no offense, but I really can't-Offense should be taken! And you wonder why women are objectified in today's society everywhere you look-Television, Books and Magazines, 'Real Life' situations. I mean COME THE EFF ON:

  • What girl let's herself be treated as a peasant girl and SINGS about it!? I can appreciate keeping on the positive side of things, but that's just going overboard. People (girls in particular) should know they are better then that even if the situations are grim. You make your own in the world-Nobody else makes it for you!
  • Animals don't swarm around you if your a princess-Yeah, I know this is irrelevant to my point, but when I was a little girl I thought if I acted like a princess, animals would flock to me and was very disappointed when I found out it wasn't true. It's a sore spot, alright!?
  • Handsome men on white steeds don't fall out of the sky and serenade you.
  • How stupid do they think girls are to open a door to a strange old hag in a black cape that cackles while home alone? ' Yes suspicious looking character attempting to thrust an apple into my mouth, come in and sit down.'
  • Your handsome man on his white steed isn't going to come and bring you back from the dead-Or rescue you in any way. Of course there will always be a chance for that(I'm not trying to kill the dream), but it's not healthy to obsess over that slim chance.

This is what we want to teach our children and grand kids? That we need a man to protect us because we are weak and to just settle when life gets a little tough?

I do not apologize for being a strong, independent woman that is very connected to her spiritual and feminine side. There is so much more to me then being 'that woman.'

As you can tell, I'm passionate about this subject and when whipped into a frenzy, I 'lash out' for lack of a better phrase. It's just sad to see these people thinking they aren't good enough and settling for the next best thing in life.

Thanks for listening to my rantings! I know it's just a movie to some people, but to me, movies can be very affective on teaching and instilling life lessons in kids-And in my opinion, Disney movies are crap.

Love and Energies.
Kayla

This is my own opinion and I was not compensated in anyway {Happy Damn FTC!?}

Of course you had to get past the doggie treat 'IT'S BEGGGGGIN' scent to it...Lmao
(Swear to god, that's what it smelled like)
